The Federal Government has officially handed over 64 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses to representatives from the Trade Union Congress (TUC), the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), and the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS).

This handover took place on Sunday at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja, coinciding with Nigeria’s 64th independence anniversary.

The government delegation was led by Mr. Wale Edun, the Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance, and included notable officials such as Alhaji Mohammed Idris, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Sen. Abubakar Bagudu, the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, and Mr. Ayodele Olawande, the Minister of State for Youth Development.

Edun highlighted that the deployment of these buses for commuter service would significantly reduce transportation costs and enhance the public transport system. He described the initiative as fulfilling President Bola Tinubu’s promise to provide affordable transportation following the removal of fuel subsidies.

He emphasized that this initiative aims to support vulnerable populations and promote macroeconomic reforms for economic stability. The handover of 64 buses marks the start of a larger national rollout, with plans to distribute over 500 CNG buses and 100 electric vehicles. This initiative also aligns with Nigeria’s commitment to cleaner energy and leveraging its energy resources for industrialization
