FATALITIES FROM MAJIA PETROL TANKER EXPLOSION IN JIGAWA RISE TO OVER 180

The death toll from last Tuesday night’s petrol tanker explosion in Majia, Taura Local Government Area of Jigawa, has climbed to over 180, with more than 80 individuals still receiving treatment in hospitals. Governor Umar Namadi confirmed the updated figures while hosting Sokoto State Governor Ahmed Aliyu at Government House in Dutse on Sunday.

Governor Namadi assured that some of the victims are making steady progress in their recovery, according to reports he has received. In a gesture of solidarity, Governor Aliyu made a donation of N100 million to support the medical bills of the injured. He expressed deep sadness over the tragic incident and affirmed Sokoto State’s continued support for Jigawa, acknowledging the long-standing relationship between the two states.

Governor Namadi thanked his Sokoto counterpart for the assistance, stating that the funds and other contributions received will be used to care for the victims.

Meanwhile, Senator Babangida Hussaini, representing Jigawa Northwest Senatorial District, pledged to work with federal and state authorities to rebuild the Majia community and help it recover from the tragedy. He commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s swift response to the disaster, noting the federal government’s commitment to addressing the victims’ needs.

Senator Hussaini expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased and the injured during a visit to Majia, reiterating his support for the community’s rehabilitation.
