A tragic accident at Oye-Agu Market in Abagana, Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra, has resulted in the death of a young girl. The incident, which occurred on Wednesday, was confirmed by Mrs. Joyce Alexander, Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Anambra.
According to Alexander, the accident was caused by brake failure and a subsequent loss of control. The crash involved a commercial Toyota Sienna with registration number NEN588YX, driven by Eze Uchechukwu, and operated by the Transport Company of Anambra State (TRACAS). Eyewitnesses reported that the driver, unable to stop the vehicle, collided with traders in the market.
The accident affected seven people in total: one male adult, three female adults, and three female children. Tragically, one female child was killed, while a male adult, three female adults, and two female children sustained injuries. The injured were transported to Urban Hospital and Maternity for treatment, and the deceased was taken to the morgue.
The FRSC team later visited the hospital to assess the condition of the injured. In her statement, Alexander extended condolences to the bereaved families and urged all motorists to regularly service their vehicles and adhere to safety standards. She also advised market vendors against displaying goods or selling on roadsides to prevent such accidents.
“Drive to save your life and the lives of others on the road,” Alexander emphasized.
