Rivers State Police Command has apprehended 31-year-old Fred Monday, who was posing as a Police Inspector while leading armed robbery operations in the state.
Arrest and Investigation Details
The Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, revealed that Monday’s deceit was uncovered during a cult initiation activity in Luegbo Community, Khana Local Government Area. Monday, dressed in Police camouflage and armed with an AK-47 rifle, ten magazines, and twenty-nine rounds of live ammunition, was taken into custody on August 9, 2024.
Confession and Background
During interrogation, Monday admitted to purchasing the rifle and ammunition in 2021 from an accomplice known as Goodluck aka Boy-J. He confessed to using this weaponry for criminal activities, including escorting criminals in various states such as Akwa-Ibom, Edo, Delta, and Rivers. The police recovered the AK-47 rifle, ten magazines, and twenty-nine rounds of ammunition from the crime scene.
Cultist Arrests
Alongside Monday, five suspected cultists, all students of Ken Saro Wiwa Polytechnic, were arrested. These students—Mduni Clement, Prosper Wonyingipreye, Kunle Joseph, Eken Evans, and Isaiah Elisha—were found participating in a cult initiation and have been charged and are currently in a correctional center. They confessed to being members of the Vikings confraternity.

In addition to Monday’s arrest, the Rivers State Police Command has also apprehended nine suspects linked to the brutal assassination of Chief Ndidi Livingstone, former Community Development Council Chairman of Mgbuoshimini, which occurred on January 13, 2024. The suspects—Nnamdi Emmanuel (aka BYC), John Lucas, Adebayo Adebayo, Chimezie Adiele, Ogolo Promise, Chigemezu Anochirimoyanya, Success Oge Ifeanyi Nwadike, and Sunday Godspower (aka 2baba)—were captured through a nationwide manhunt.

The investigation revealed that the suspects were part of a sophisticated gang involved in kidnapping, armed robbery, and murder. Police recovered a significant cache of weapons from the suspects, including two AK-47 rifles, one assault rifle, two SMG rifles, one shotgun rifle, ten magazines, 150 rounds of live ammunition, and one pistol.
