Former Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Ibrahim Shekarau, has emphatically stated that he never accepted bribes from contractors during his time in office. Speaking at a news briefing in Abuja, Shekarau highlighted that throughout his eight-year tenure as governor, he did not touch the local government funds, attributing his integrity to the moral teachings he received from the Muslim Students Society of Nigeria (MSSN).
Shekarau shared, “In my 44 years of public leadership, I have never negotiated with any contractors… The only thing I own today is my house where I lived in Kano. I still live in a rented house in Abuja.”
Shekarau, who is also the Deputy Chairman of the Board of Trustees of MSSN, expressed pride in the society’s role in fostering educational, economic, spiritual, and political growth within the Muslim community. He noted that MSSN has expanded to 37,000 branches across Nigeria and is committed to strengthening unity and encouraging political participation among its members.
Despite the challenges faced by MSSN, including the lack of a national headquarters for decades, Shekarau remains optimistic about the society’s future endeavors.
