On Thursday, Governor Dr. Peter Mbah of Enugu State officially launched the revitalisation of Enugu United Palm Products Limited (EUPPL) at a ceremony held in Ibite-Olo, Ezeagu Local Government Area. This event marks the beginning of a significant N100 billion investment deal between the Enugu State Government and Pragmatic Palms Limited (PPL), finalized in May.

The ceremony also included the groundbreaking for new staff quarters at the plantation. Governor Mbah expressed gratitude to the people of Enugu State for their support and faith in his vision to rejuvenate and transform the state’s dormant assets into productive enterprises.

Mbah highlighted that this project represents a victory of vision over skepticism, noting the initial doubts and criticisms faced when the N100 billion investment was announced. He assured the management and executives of PPL of the state’s unwavering support for the project’s success.

Prof. George Nwangwu, Managing Director/CEO of Pragmatic Palms Limited, outlined a five-year plan to position EUPPL as a leading integrated oil palm establishment in Nigeria. The plan includes developing the upstream, midstream, and downstream sectors of the palm oil industry, with a target of creating 3,500 direct and indirect jobs.

Currently, only 40% of the 6,700 hectares of land is planted, but the company plans to aggressively expand this area to at least 20,000 hectares within five years.
