The Enugu State Police Command has completed the orderly room trial of Inspector Ozonwanji Joseph, who was implicated in the murder of Ogene musician Chikezie Okezie Nwamba. According to a statement from the command spokesperson, Daniel Ndukwe, Inspector Ozonwanji was found guilty and has received the maximum penalty of dismissal from the Nigeria Police Force, alongside prosecution in accordance with the Police Act and Regulations 2020.
The Assistant Inspector-General of Police for Zone 13, which encompasses the Anambra and Enugu State commands, approved the recommendations for dismissal and prosecution. Consequently, Inspector Ozonwanji was arraigned on October 28, 2024, at the Enugu East Magistrate Court on murder charges.
Following the arraignment, the Chief Magistrate ordered the former officer to be remanded in the Enugu Correctional Custodial Centre. The case file has been directed to the Attorney General of Enugu State for further judicial action, and the trial has been adjourned to November 12, 2024. This development highlights the ongoing commitment of law enforcement agencies to uphold accountability and justice within their ranks.
