Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State inaugurated the 17 newly elected Local Government Council chairmen and their deputies on Monday, following the September 21 council elections. He urged them to quickly implement people-centered projects and programs that align with their campaign promises.

Mbah emphasized the importance of the new chairmen relocating to their council areas, stating that the time of living far from their constituents is over. He encouraged them to engage in his government’s initiatives, such as the Smart Green School program, rural infrastructure projects, and agriculture, to combat crime and create a brighter future for the youth in Enugu.

“I followed your campaign and all that you promised the people. I also heard many of you alluding to our mantra, ‘Tomorrow Is Here,’ during the campaign. This speaks to the immediacy of our tasks and the need to solve problems without procrastination,” Mbah stated. He highlighted the need for innovative approaches to address the issues facing the state, noting, “The time for talk is over, and the honeymoon is also over. It’s now time to walk the talk and act on your promises.”

The governor also stressed the importance of tackling insecurity, stating that development is unattainable without peace. “We have zero tolerance for crime and insecurity in Enugu State. Attracting industries and development to your local governments depends on having a secure environment,” he warned.

Additionally, Mbah called for inclusive governance, urging the chairmen to prioritize the needs of the people and deliver the dividends of democracy to all citizens. “You must banish feelings of alienation and ensure that the people are at the center of your governance model,” he concluded.
