The Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC) has announced that it is 98 percent prepared for the Local Government elections scheduled for September 21. Prof. Christian Ngwu, the Chairman of ENSIEC, confirmed this during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday.

Ngwu stated that all arrangements for the polls are in place, with the only tasks remaining being the dispatch of sensitive materials and the deployment of electoral officers. He mentioned that the 17 electoral officers will be dispatched with the sensitive materials to the respective council areas on Friday morning following a briefing.

ENSIEC has already secured and stored the sensitive materials in a safe and undisclosed location, ready for distribution. The commission has also finalized preparations for the deployment of electoral ad hoc staff, regular staff, and officers, as well as security arrangements.

Training sessions for all levels of electoral officers, including ad hoc staff, were completed on Wednesday. Additionally, Prof. Ngwu held meetings with political party leaders, all of whom signed a peace accord for the election, and met with security agencies, including the Commissioner of Police, to finalize security logistics.

The ENSIEC Chairman also confirmed that all logistics arrangements are concluded, with vehicles fueled and drivers ready for the polls.
