Elder U.K. Eke has been inaugurated as the 8th president of the Lagos State Council of the Boys Brigade Nigeria, vowing to transform the lives of boys and young men across Nigeria. The investiture ceremony took place at the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria (PCN), Lekki parish, Lagos.

Commitment to Empower Youth

Eke articulated his vision for a new era within the Boys Brigade, emphasizing the need to empower young boys to become positive changemakers in society. He stated, “This is a new dispensation. This is the beginning of a new era. This era will transform the boys and families across the state.”

He expressed concern about the potential consequences of neglecting the youth, noting, “As we move around the streets, we cannot help but notice our young boys, who, if not attended to, will be a menace to us not too far from now. Therefore, the burden cannot be left to the state government alone.”

Eke pledged to mobilize the vast membership of the organization to address these challenges proactively, stating, “We will redeem the time and our youth.”

Support from the Lagos State Government

During the ceremony, Eke acknowledged the support of the Lagos State Government. He expressed gratitude to Governor Babjide Sanwo-Olu, pledging that the Boys Brigade would work collaboratively with the government in its efforts to develop the youth. Eke assured that the organization would remain prudent, accountable, and transparent in utilizing any support received.

The governor, represented by Mr. Mobolaji Ogunlende, the Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, reiterated the importance of the Boys Brigade as one of the 57 voluntary youth organizations under the Ministry of Youth and Social Development, highlighting their role as partners in progress.

Emphasis on Servant Leadership

At the investiture ceremony, Rev. Solomon Okoro, the resident minister and host, emphasized the significance of servant leadership in guiding the new president and the organization as a whole. This sentiment aligns with the Boys Brigade’s mission to promote positive societal habits and Christ’s kingdom among boys aged 6–9.

Looking Ahead

With Elder U.K. Eke at the helm, the Boys Brigade Lagos State Council is set to embark on initiatives aimed at fostering the development of young boys and men in the community, positioning them as future leaders who can contribute positively to society.
