In an exclusive report by Variety Magazine, Idris Elba and David Oyelowo are set to produce an adaptation of Chinua Achebe’s iconic novel, Things Fall Apart. Achebe, a central figure in modern African literature, penned this widely studied and translated work, which has won multiple accolades, including the Nigerian National Merit Award. Although no writer is currently attached to the project, Elba and Gina Carter will executive produce under their new 22Summers production banner, alongside Oyelowo and Amanda N’Duka through Yoruba Saxon.
The series will follow Okonkwo (to be portrayed by Elba), an African warrior facing the disruption of British colonization, exploring themes of strength, vulnerability, and tradition. Elba, recently nominated for an Emmy for Hijack, has a storied career in both acting and production, while Oyelowo continues to expand his influence in film and television through various projects.
