The former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufa’i, spoke on Tuesday during a program on Freedom Radio Kaduna, addressing allegations against his administration.

In his remarks delivered in Hausa, El-Rufa’i emphasized that his motivation for entering politics was to serve the people rather than to engage in corrupt practices. He stated, “I did not join politics to steal money or enrich myself. I was satisfied with what I had before becoming governor. I am ready to swear with the Qur’an to prove my innocence if other former governors and current leaders would do the same.”

He expressed his commitment to integrity, saying he has always prayed for guidance and strived not to betray public trust. El-Rufa’i challenged other former governors and leaders to join him in swearing an oath on the Qur’an, asserting, “I have no fear because I know I never took money that belonged to the people.”

The former governor criticized the accusations against his administration, pointing out the lack of concrete evidence regarding any missing funds. He stated that his allies have faced scrutiny from the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, which he views as part of a smear campaign against him.

“I have left everything to Allah’s judgment. I have prayed and will remain silent on the issue. I have instructed my lawyers to take legal action against those tarnishing my name, but for now, I’m focused on my activities like reading and writing,” he explained.

El-Rufa’i reiterated his commitment to serving the people, asserting that one does not need to hold a government position to do so. “We are still working with like-minded individuals who genuinely want to serve the people, not those seeking to enrich themselves,” he said.

Looking ahead, he expressed his intention to return to politics in 2027 after completing his studies, stating, “There is no retirement in politics. By the will of Allah, we will return and continue serving the people.”

In closing, El-Rufa’i shared his belief in divine guidance, saying, “I always ask Allah to help me in whatever I do in life because, as a human being, I always try not to do anything wrong or betray people’s trust.”
