The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has initiated an investigation into claims that some of its officers accepted N15 million from Idris Okuneye, commonly known as Bobrisky, to dismiss money laundering charges against him.
This investigation, directed by EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede, follows a viral video in which Bobrisky, a former convict, made these allegations. The video was produced by Martins Vincent Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan.
In a statement released on Tuesday night, Dele Oyewale, Head of Media and Publicity at the EFCC, confirmed the investigation and invited both Bobrisky and Otse to the commission’s Lagos Directorate to assist in uncovering the truth behind the claims.
Bobrisky’s accusations come in the wake of previous legal troubles, including a six-month prison sentence for mutilating and spraying Naira notes at social events.
The EFCC has pledged a thorough investigation into the allegations, emphasizing that any proven misconduct would severely undermine its integrity and anti-corruption efforts. Oyewale reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to combating financial crimes in Nigeria, underscoring its core values of integrity, courage, professionalism, and collaboration.
He stated, “The EFCC has taken swift and decisive action regarding the alleged bribery claims made by Idris Okuneye (aka Bobrisky) against some EFCC officers. The Executive Chairman of the EFCC, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, has ordered an immediate investigation.
“The EFCC wishes to assure the public that the allegations will be thoroughly investigated, and the results made public accordingly. To facilitate this investigation, the Commission hereby invites both Okuneye and Martins Vincent Otse (aka VeryDarkMan) to present themselves at its Lagos Directorate to assist investigators in uncovering the alleged bribery.”
