Ahead of the Edo State governorship election on September 21, 2024, the pro-democracy group Edo People For Good Governance has criticized former Governor Adams Oshiomhole’s political tactics. The group, led by Comrade Bright Omorodion, accused Oshiomhole of exploiting tribal divisions within Edo State to strengthen his political influence, particularly favoring his Etsako tribe, which represents only 9% of the state’s population.
Omorodion alleged that Oshiomhole’s actions have led to a skewed distribution of federal appointments, with most going to Etsako individuals, thereby neglecting other groups such as Owan and Akoko Edo. This, according to the group, has resulted in imbalanced political representation and resource allocation.
Additionally, the group criticized Oshiomhole for his recent comments on ARISE TV, where he dismissed ongoing hunger protests as the work of “faceless mobs.” The group condemned this dismissive attitude and called on the people of Edo North to reject tribal manipulation and push for fair and transparent political representation.
Their statement highlights ongoing concerns about political integrity and equity in Edo State, urging voters to scrutinize candidates and demand accountability in the upcoming election.
