< 1 mn read

A political controversy has erupted in Edo State following a provocative statement by Senator Monday Okpebholo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial candidate. In a video that went viral on Saturday and has been extensively shared on social media, Okpebholo was heard saying, “We’re going to provide you with insecurity” during a recent campaign rally.

CALL FOR INVESTIGATION

The Young Edo Professionals Group has demanded an immediate investigation into Okpebholo’s remarks, asserting that they reveal his true intentions for the state. They have expressed concerns that Okpebholo’s statement might indicate plans to import the instability and violence seen in other APC-controlled regions into Edo State.

The group highlighted recent violence on Airport Road in Benin City, including an incident where a police inspector was killed, which they allege is linked to APC political activities. They have urged the Department of State Security (DSS) to take Okpebholo’s comments seriously and conduct a thorough probe into his actions and affiliations.

CONCERNS AND APPEALS

The group emphasized the need for vigilance among stakeholders to ensure the maintenance of peace in Edo State. They argue that Okpebholo’s statement is more than a careless remark and could be indicative of potential plans to disrupt the state’s stability if he comes to power.
