The Kogi State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suspended former senator and governorship candidate Dino Melaye over alleged anti-party activities. The suspension was carried out by the PDP executive committee in Ayetoro Gbede, Ward 1, due to Melaye’s failure to respond to a summons.
In a memo dated September 12, the ward executive committee reported that Melaye had been summoned to appear before a disciplinary committee in August to address allegations of misconduct, but he did not attend the meeting.
The memo stated: “The Ward Party Executive Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in Ayetoro/lluagba ward 1 convened on Friday, September 12, 2024, to review the report of the disciplinary committee set up to investigate alleged anti-party activities by Senator Dino Melaye, a member of our great party.
“However, he failed to appear, disregarding the invitation and the authority of the party.
“After thorough consideration and discussion, the Ward Party Exco concluded the following: Senator Dino Melaye’s absence before the Disciplinary Committee shows a gross lack of respect for the party and its leadership.
“His actions are in direct violation of the PDP Constitution and the principles of party discipline.
“Senator Dino Melaye’s behavior has brought embarrassment and disrepute to the party, making his continued membership untenable.
“Therefore, the Ward Party Exco hereby suspends Senator Dino Melaye from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), effective immediately.”
The suspension is in line with Article 59(1) of the PDP Constitution, which allows the Ward Party Exco to take disciplinary measures against members who violate party rules.
