Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt Hon. Benjamin Kalu, is taking legal action over a misrepresented interview that has caused public confusion and misinformation.
MEDIA CONTROVERSY
The controversy centers on an interview Kalu gave to ABN TV, where he spoke about his support for Abia State Governor Alex Otti and his commitment to his party. In the interview, Kalu emphasized his long-standing support for various governors in Abia and expressed the need for his party to lead the state.
DISTORTED REPORT
However, Spin 95.3 FM allegedly altered the interview’s content, misquoting Kalu in a manner that suggested he was opposing his party’s control over Abia State. The station reportedly posted a distorted version of the interview on their TikTok page.
KALU’S RESPONSE
Kalu, outraged by the misrepresentation, has threatened legal action against Spin 95.3 FM. The radio station, in their defense, claimed that they sourced the video from ABN TV’s social media platforms and credited them appropriately.
ABN TV’S COUNTERCLAIM
ABN TV has challenged Spin 95.3 FM, accusing them of editing their content and misusing their watermark. They have demanded that Spin FM explain how their watermark appeared on the content.
LEGAL ACTION
Currently on holiday, Kalu has declined to comment further, stating that his legal team, led by K.C. Nwufor SAN, is preparing to take legal action against the involved media outlets.
This incident highlights the serious consequences of misinformation and the importance of accurate media reporting for public figures.
