The Minister of State for Defence, Alhaji Bello Matawalle, has issued a stark warning to informants aiding bandits, urging them to repent or risk severe repercussions. Speaking on October 10, 2024, during a visit to Gundumi village in Sokoto State, he emphasized the need for these individuals to cease their actions or face dire consequences.

Matawalle remarked, “Those who have been informing bandits about military movements should fear God. You better repent or we send you back to your creator.” His comments come amid efforts to bolster security in the region and restore normalcy to areas previously affected by banditry.

The minister announced plans to establish a military base in the area to enhance security and support local economic activities. He noted, “This place used to be lively with a lot of business activities. I assure you it will bounce back.”

Operation Fansan Yamma

During the launch of “Operation Fansan Yamma,” Matawalle called for collective public support in the fight against terrorism. He stressed that combating banditry is a responsibility shared by all Nigerians, not just the government and security agencies.

He also highlighted the crucial role of the media in countering bandit propaganda, urging journalists to report on military successes in the ongoing fight against banditry and insurgency.

Matawalle recalled the military’s recent successes, including the neutralization of notorious bandit kingpin Halidu Sububu, who was known for supplying arms to criminal groups. “We must continue to report successes recorded by our gallant military,” he stated, reinforcing the importance of unity and vigilance in addressing security challenges.
