Dr. Adedeji Adeleke, father of popular singer Davido, has made headlines with his generous donation of ₦1 billion to Cherubim and Seraphim Church, in memory of his late mother, Nnena Esther Adeleke.

The donation was announced on August 18, 2024, during a thanksgiving service in Lagos State celebrating the life of Nnena Esther Adeleke, the founder of a C&S church in Ede, Osun State. She held the esteemed title of Senior Mother-in-Israel within the church, a role now fulfilled by her daughter, Modupe Adeleke-Sanni.

The service saw notable figures in attendance, including Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and Davido himself. In a moment captured on video, Dr. Adeleke declared, “On behalf of our late mother, senior mother in Israel, late Mrs. Esther Adeleke, we want to contribute to the centenary endowment fund, the sum of ₦1 billion.”

The announcement was met with enthusiastic cheers from the crowd, and a video capturing the moment shows Governor Ademola Adeleke dancing joyfully.

The massive donation has sparked a variety of reactions on social media. Many users expressed astonishment at the amount, with one commenting, “This just happened a few minutes ago at the Cherubim and Seraph Church Surulere! Omo money na water.”

Others criticized the donation, suggesting that there are more pressing needs in the community. “Is this the best thing? Look at Osun State, donating money to churches isn’t the best,” one user wrote. Another questioned the validity of the donation, saying, “Lol, audio money. Adeleke has money, but why donate ₦1 billion to that church? Common, for what?”

The donation continues to be a topic of intense discussion across social media platforms.
