Nigerian music sensation Davido captivated Ethiopian audiences during a sold-out show on September 11, 2024, celebrating the Ethiopian New Year, which marks the start of 2017 according to their Orthodox Tewahedo calendar. The calendar, which differs from the Gregorian calendar, has 13 months and lags 7 years behind the globally recognized calendar.
Davido, known for his global influence in promoting Afrobeats, performed several of his hit songs, including tracks from his acclaimed fourth album, Timeless. His performance is part of a series of international appearances this year, following a notable event in Saint-Tropez where he mingled with high-profile guests, including Nigerian billionaire Femi Otedola, and met a Saudi Prince.
The year 2024 has been particularly successful for Davido, who received three Grammy nominations for the 66th Grammys. He recently released a new single, “Joy,” a collaboration with 5X Grammy winner Angelique Kidjo, just before the submission deadline for the 67th Grammys. Davido is also preparing to release his highly anticipated fifth project, which he has described as his best work yet.
