Nigerian superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has launched his campaign for Asue Ighodalo, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the upcoming Edo governorship election scheduled for September 21.
On Sunday evening, Davido used his social media platforms to endorse Ighodalo, urging young voters to participate in the election and support the PDP candidate.
Davido highlighted that Ighodalo hails from the same area as his late mother, making him a significant choice for the position. The singer’s post included a picture of Ighodalo with the caption: “The next governor of my mother’s homeland.”
With his substantial social media following, Davido’s endorsement is likely to impact the election, particularly among the youth demographic.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) notes that other celebrities, including Banky W, his wife actress Adesua Etomi, actress Etinosa, and Nollywood actor and producer Charles Onojie, have also publicly supported Ighodalo. Prominent business figures like Dr. Aloy Chife and former Vice President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, as well as former governors Liyel Imoke and Donald Duke, have also voiced their backing for Ighodalo.
This blend of celebrity endorsements and support from political heavyweights is expected to enhance PDP’s prospects in the election amid strong opposition challenges.
