DAVID DATRO FOFANA SEEKS EXIT FROM CHELSEA AS FUTURE REMAINS UNCERTAIN

< 1 mn read

David Datro Fofana is eager to secure a move away from Chelsea as he seeks regular first-team football. The 21-year-old Ivorian forward is currently training away from the senior squad and is not expected to feature in Enzo Maresca’s plans this season.

Current Situation

Despite interest from Sunderland, Everton, and various Championship clubs during the English transfer window, a deal could not be finalized. However, clubs in Turkey, Belgium, and other regions are still permitted to make signings, and Fofana remains hopeful of a transfer.

Background

Fofana joined Chelsea from Molde in January 2023 for a fee exceeding €10 million (£8.5m; $10.8m). His time at Chelsea has seen limited appearances, with only four appearances for the Blues. He spent the first half of the 2023-24 season on loan at Union Berlin, scoring twice in 17 games, and then joined Burnley on loan, where he netted four times in 15 appearances.

Future Prospects

With Chelsea’s forward line featuring Nicolas Jackson as the primary striker and recent additions like Joao Felix and Marc Guiu, Fofana’s chances of playing for the senior team are slim. His contract with Chelsea runs until June 2029, but the club is open to both permanent and loan offers from clubs across Europe.
