British-Nigerian singer Darkoo recently shared her experience of coming out to her Nigerian parents during an interview on The Appointment Show. She revealed that telling her mother was particularly challenging due to their close bond, but it ultimately brought her relief.
“The day I told my mum, I felt a massive weight off my shoulders,” Darkoo explained, adding that while her dad found the conversation difficult, he did not reject her. She emphasized her commitment to living authentically, stating, “This is what makes me happy.”
Despite her parents’ traditional views on her sexuality, Darkoo noted their love and acceptance, saying, “I have parents who love me for me.” She feels fulfilled and connected to her identity, affirming her strong relationship with God.
