The upcoming film “The Weekend,” directed by Daniel Oriahi and produced by Trino Motion Pictures, is set to premiere in Nigerian cinemas on August 30, 2024. It features a compelling cast including Uzoamaka Aniunoh, Bucci Franklin, Meg Otanwa, James Gardiner, Gloria Anozie, and Keppy Ekpeyong Bassey.

The story revolves around Nikiya, an orphaned woman who demands that her fiancé, Luc, introduce her to his estranged family or risk losing her. As she becomes entwined in their seemingly perfect world, dark family secrets emerge, blending elements of horror with the traditional meet-the-family narrative.

“The Weekend” was notably selected from over 13,000 submissions to be featured at the 2024 Tribeca Film Festival in New York, marking it as the sole Nollywood representation at the prestigious event. Oriahi, discussing the film’s creation, highlighted its ambitious scale within the Nigerian film industry and his interest in exploring narratives of dysfunctional family dynamics.

The film promises to bring a fresh perspective to audiences with its genre-bending approach and high production values relative to Nigerian cinema standards.
