DANIEL ORIAHI’S THE WEEKEND SELECTED FOR BFI LONDON FILM FESTIVAL

The Weekend, directed by Daniel Oriahi, has been officially selected to screen at the 68th BFI London Film Festival, scheduled to take place from October 9 to October 20, 2024. This marks a significant achievement for the film, following its earlier selection for the 2024 Tribeca Film Festival in New York.

Oriahi shared his excitement on Instagram, expressing honor and pride at the film’s inclusion in the prestigious festival. “The Weekend” will be showcased in the Cult Section, alongside other anticipated thrillers and horror films of the fall season.

The film has been making waves, including breaking box office records in Nollywood, with its latest achievement being a notable ₦8 million in box office earnings. Oriahi praised the collaboration with Trino Studios and other notable Nigerian filmmakers who have been recognized at international festivals.

The Weekend is a psychological thriller about Nikiya Talabi, an orphan who visits her fiancé’s seemingly perfect family, only to uncover their dark secrets. The cast includes Uzoamaka Aniunoh, Bucci Franklin, Meg Otanwa, Keppy Ekpeyong Bassey, Gloria Anozie-Young, and Damilola Ogunsi.

Oriahi’s filmmaking career began with his debut feature, Misfit, and includes notable works such as Taxi Driver: Oke Ashewo and Sylvia. His recent success with The Weekend underscores his rising prominence in the film industry.
