La Liga President, Javier Tebas, has spoken about Dani Olmo’s contract situation at Barcelona, offering his perspective on the midfielder’s move to the Catalan club. Tebas acknowledged that while Olmo was aware of the risks when he joined Barcelona from RB Leipzig for €60 million, he suggested that Olmo should not finish his career at the club.
Olmo, 26, had a rocky start at Barcelona due to financial issues at the club, which delayed his registration and saw him miss the first few games of the season. Despite Barcelona’s efforts to reduce their wage bill to accommodate him, the situation remained unresolved, leaving Olmo and teammate Pau Victor ineligible to play. This uncertainty led to speculation that they could leave for free.
Barcelona pursued legal action to overturn La Liga’s ban, which eventually allowed them to register Olmo. Tebas pointed out that Barcelona tried to resolve their issues in a hurry towards the end of the summer, including unconventional measures like selling VIP box tickets. He remarked that while Olmo knew the risks when he signed, he believed it was unlikely that the player would spend the rest of his career at Barcelona, given the financial and administrative struggles the club faces.
