Dani Carvajal, the Spanish defender for Real Madrid, is set to spend several months on the sidelines following surgery for a serious knee injury sustained during a La Liga match against Villarreal. Real Madrid confirmed that Carvajal suffered multiple injuries, including:
- A rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament
- A rupture of the external collateral ligament
- A rupture of the popliteal tendon in his right leg
The injury occurred in the final minutes of Real Madrid’s 2-0 victory over Villarreal, which allowed the reigning champions to level up with Barcelona at the top of the La Liga standings.
In a statement on Instagram, Carvajal expressed his determination to recover, stating, “A serious cruciate ligament injury has been confirmed, I’m going to have to undergo surgery and be out for a few months. I can’t wait to start my recovery and come back like a beast.”
He received messages of support from teammates and celebrities, including Spanish tennis star Carlos Alcaraz, who encouraged him to “keep up the good work.”
Carvajal’s absence will be a blow to both Real Madrid and the Spanish national team, which will also miss Manchester City midfielder Rodri Hernandez, who is sidelined with a similar knee injury.
