The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has dismissed recent media reports that the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has begun lifting petrol from its facility at ₦897 per litre.
REFUTING MEDIA REPORTS
On September 4, 2024, Dangote Group issued a statement clarifying that no transaction of this nature has occurred. The refinery labeled the reports as “misleading.” According to Anthony Chiejina, Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer, “NNPC has not commenced lifting refined Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, from our Dangote Petroleum Refinery.”
PRICE AND CONTRACTS STILL PENDING
The refinery emphasized that petrol pricing has not yet been established, as contracts with NNPC are still under negotiation. Chiejina explained, “The issue of fixing the price of petrol lifted from our refinery does not arise, as we are yet to finalize our contract with NNPC.”
GOVERNMENT REGULATION
Dangote Group also highlighted that the government regulates fuel prices and that the refinery has no role in setting these prices. The company reassured Nigerians that once operational, the refinery will provide high-quality petroleum products nationwide.
“We urge the public to disregard the headline as it is misleading and does not reflect the actual situation,” Chiejina concluded.
