Oba Akinloye Owolabi Olakulehin, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, has emphasized the crucial role of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) in the country’s economic recovery efforts. He made this statement during a visit from the Customs Area Controller for the Oyo/Osun Area Command, Dr. Ben Oramalugo, at the Oke Aremo palace in Ibadan on Thursday.

IMPORTANCE OF CUSTOMS SERVICE

Olakulehin, represented by Ekerin Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Amidu Ajibade, stressed that Nigeria’s path to economic recovery heavily relies on the revenue collection capabilities of the Nigeria Customs Service. He highlighted the Customs Service’s significant role in revenue generation and its recent advancements in revenue collection and smuggling prevention.

“The Nigeria Customs is the major revenue collecting agent for the Nigerian Government,” Olakulehin noted. “After oil revenue, Customs revenue is the next most significant source. Our country cannot do without the Customs Service.”

CUSTOMS AREA CONTROLLER’S VISIT

Dr. Ben Oramalugo, along with his team, visited the Olubadan to seek royal support for effective service delivery within their jurisdiction and to request the monarch’s blessings. He underscored the importance of Ibadan in revenue generation, stating, “Ibadan is too significant to overlook in revenue collection. A substantial portion of our revenue comes from this region.”

Oramalugo emphasized that revenue generation remains a key function of the Nigeria Customs Service, particularly within the Oyo/Osun Area Command, where Ibadan plays a vital role.
