“CEFRAN Demands Independent Leadership for NNPCL and Oil Agencies Amid Adulterated Fuel Scandal”

The Citizens and Economic Freedom Rights Activists in Nigeria (CEFRAN) have called for independent leadership at the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and other oil and gas agencies following allegations of adulterated fuel imports. CEFRAN urged the Federal Government to establish an independent judicial inquiry to investigate the continuous importation of substandard fuel.

At a press conference in Abuja, CEFRAN Convener Obinna Francis condemned the actions of marketers involved in these practices, warning of significant health risks to Nigerians. The group also called for the resignation of regulatory heads, including Mele Kyari, Gbenga Komolafe, and Farouq Ahmed, to enable a thorough investigation.

CEFRAN criticized Abdulkabir Adisa Aliu of Matrix Energy for allegedly importing fuel from Malta and appealed to President Bola Tinubu to appoint an untainted Independent Management Team to oversee the investigation and ensure accountability. The group emphasized the need for stringent regulations, robust enforcement, and a commitment to high-quality fuel.

The Senate has already taken steps to address the issue, forming a 15-member committee on July 3rd to investigate the importation of hazardous petroleum products by NNPCL.
