Phrank Shaibu, Special Assistant on Public Communication to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has launched a harsh critique of President Bola Tinubu’s leadership, highlighting the symbolic decline of Tinubu’s “Emilokan” caps. In his article, “De-cap-itated!”, Shaibu compares the caps’ shift from a symbol of hope to one of political failure to the swastika’s transition from a symbol of good fortune to one of oppression under Nazi Germany.

Shaibu contends that the Emilokan caps, once a representation of Tinubu’s promises of economic advancement and human rights, have now come to signify broken promises and personal enrichment. He accuses Tinubu of not fulfilling his promises and claims that his administration has focused more on personal gain than national progress.

Additionally, Shaibu rejects the comparisons between Tinubu and the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, arguing that such comparisons are misleading and that Tinubu’s leadership has not achieved the inclusive vision associated with Awolowo.

Overall, Shaibu’s critique reflects widespread disillusionment with Tinubu’s presidency, suggesting that the once-cherished Emilokan caps now symbolize unfulfilled expectations and increasing dissatisfaction with the current administration.
