CRISTIANO RONALDO REVEALS FUTURE PLANS FOR INTERNATIONAL FOOTBALL

< 1 mn read

Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo has declared his intention to continue playing for the national team as long as he feels he contributes positively and maintains his starting role. The 39-year-old, who has amassed 212 caps and scored a record 130 goals for Portugal over his two-decade-long international career, remains committed to representing his country.

Ronaldo’s Commitment and Role

Despite a goalless Euro 2024 campaign, where he played every minute of four matches and featured in extra time during the knockout stages, Ronaldo expressed his determination to stay a key player for Portugal. He stated, “In my mind, I’ll always be a starter. Until the end of my career, I’ll always think that I’ll be a starter. I’ll always respect the decisions, not only of the coach, but at the clubs I’ve played for I’ve always respected them.”

Ronaldo emphasized that he will leave the national team if he no longer proves to be an asset. “If I am not an asset, I will be the first to leave,” he said. “But if I leave, I will go with a clear conscience, as always, because I know who I am, what I can do, what I do and what I will continue to do.”

What’s Next for Ronaldo?

Ronaldo is set to participate in Portugal’s upcoming UEFA Nations League matches, including games against Croatia on September 5 and Scotland three days later. His future with the national team will be closely watched as he continues to balance his international commitments with his club career.
