Cristiano Ronaldo is set to grace the 2024 European Championship as he aims for his third international title with Portugal. At 39 years old, Ronaldo, alongside his long-time friend Pepe (41 years old), has been named in Portugal’s 26-man squad for Euro 2024, scheduled to take place in Germany from June 14 to July 14, 2024.
This marks Ronaldo’s 11th major international tournament, adding another chapter to his illustrious football career as it gradually winds down. The tournament presents an opportunity for the Al Nassr forward to extend his record international appearances beyond 206 games and to increase his record international goals beyond 128 strikes.
Coach Roberto Martinez explained that Cristiano Ronaldo was included in the squad due to his quality in front of goal, which he and his coaching staff “appreciate and which we need.”
Despite boasting one of the highest numbers of appearances in the European Championship, Ronaldo has only played in two finals. He featured in the Euro 2004 final hosted by Portugal, where his side lost to Greece, before finally lifting the trophy when Portugal triumphed in the 2016 edition of the tournament.
