Angel Correa’s 95th-minute equaliser earned Atletico Madrid a 1-1 draw against Real Madrid in a thrilling La Liga derby on Sunday. The Argentine forward anxiously awaited a VAR review to confirm he was onside, but his perfectly timed run secured a crucial point for the hosts.

Real Madrid, missing star striker Kylian Mbappe due to injury, had taken the lead through Eder Militao midway through the second half. The match was temporarily halted for about 15 minutes after Atletico fans threw objects at Madrid players, leading to a late red card for Atletico’s Marcos Llorente.

Correa’s late goal positioned Atletico third in the league, while Real Madrid remained second, three points behind leaders Barcelona following their defeat at Osasuna on Saturday. Despite conceding the late equaliser, Madrid extended their unbeaten league run to 40 games, with their last loss occurring over a year ago against Atletico.

Coach Carlo Ancelotti opted for veteran midfielder Luka Modric in place of the injured Mbappe. The first half saw few clear chances, with former Atletico goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois making a crucial save from Julian Alvarez, while Fede Valverde nearly scored for Madrid.

The second half maintained a similar intensity until Militao broke the deadlock in the 64th minute.
