Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina State has revealed a shocking incident where a community leader accepted a ₦700,000 bribe from bandits, allowing them to enter his village and kill 30 residents. Speaking at a town hall meeting in Daura over the weekend, Governor Radda emphasized that such criminal activities are often facilitated by individuals within the community.
He expressed deep concern about the growing collusion between community leaders and bandits, highlighting how this treachery is exacerbating the security crisis in the region. The Governor criticized the practice of paying ransoms, noting that it often fails to save hostages and may even lead to their deaths.
Governor Radda also shared his government’s efforts to empower communities to defend themselves against bandits. He announced the formation of a community watch corps, which has been trained and equipped to work alongside security forces. This initiative aims to strengthen local defenses in remote areas where the response time of security agents is slow.
Radda lamented the state of insecurity in Katsina, urging communities to take a stand against bandits rather than succumbing to fear and allowing their homes to be overrun. He concluded by condemning the betrayal by community leaders and calling for collective action to protect lives and property.
