Popular comedienne and actress, Anita Asuoha, known as Real Warri Pikin, has disclosed that she attempted suicide due to unpaid debts.
Asuoha shared that her husband, influenced by the speaker, invested in various business ventures, accumulating a debt of N22 million. Faced with mounting financial pressure and no immediate assistance, she succumbed to suicidal thoughts and tried to end her life.
In a video shared on Instagram to mark World Suicide Prevention Day, Asuoha recounted her attempt, saying, “I tried suicide so you don’t have to. On June 6, 2018, at 3 pm, I attempted suicide because the burden was overwhelming. Life was hitting me from all directions, and I felt ending my life was the only escape from the pain.”
She cautioned that suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem and emphasized the importance of holding on to faith and doing what one can in difficult times.
In 2019, Asuoha revealed that depression led her to pursue a career in comedy. She explained, “I discovered my comedy talent through depression. While I used to dance professionally, host events, and do stand-up comedy in school, I never took it seriously. Last year, with financial struggles and many issues, I decided to start making motivational and inspiring videos in a humorous way. And here I am today.”
