“CNPP Demands Immediate Suspension of NNPC MD Mele Kyari Over Alleged Mismanagement and Subsidy Scandal”
The Conference of Nigerian Political Parties (CNPP) has called for the immediate suspension of Mele Kyari, the Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).
The CNPP is demanding an independent investigation into alleged issues, including a subsidy scam, substandard petroleum imports, and the mismanagement of the Port Harcourt refinery.
The group attributes the current economic hardships and fuel price hikes, which have surged from N167 to about N700 per litre, to the NNPC’s alleged failures and mismanagement.
CNPP criticized Kyari’s leadership, describing it as controversial and ineffective, and expressed frustration over persistent petrol shortages despite the price increase.
The CNPP highlighted allegations of a subsidy scam, inefficiency in refinery rehabilitation, and importation of substandard petroleum products, which they claim endanger public health and safety.
They also referenced a statement by Emir of Kano, Alhaji Sanusi Lamido, suggesting resistance within NNPC to ending the alleged subsidy scam.
This statement reflects deep concerns about the state of Nigeria’s oil sector and the need for accountability and reform within NNPC.
