On the occasion of Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day, the Chinese government extended heartfelt congratulations, reaffirming its commitment to supporting low-income earners in Nigeria. This celebration coincided with China’s 75th founding anniversary, during which Chinese President Xi Jinping and Nigerian President Bola Tinubu signed several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) to strengthen bilateral relations.

Ms. Yan Yuqing, Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Lagos, expressed China’s dedication to enhancing the welfare of Nigerians. “We will continue to do more. The outstanding contributions made by overseas Chinese communities, groups, and enterprises in improving people’s livelihoods and helping the poor are remarkable.”
Ms. Yan cited recent support for anti-malaria campaigns in Cross River State, which exemplifies the enduring friendship and cooperation between China and Nigeria.

Dr. Eric Ni emphasized the achievements of the Chinese community in Nigeria, outlining their contributions such as scholarships for students, support for orphanages, and the construction of schools. He remarked:
“Over the years, the Chinese community has worked tirelessly to empower and uplift low-income earners in Nigeria, while we have also awarded many scholarships to bright and deserving students across the country.”
