As the November 16 local council elections approach in Ogun State, the Community Advocacy for Peace and Strategic Leadership Initiative (CAPSL-Initiative) has called on all stakeholders to adhere strictly to the rules set by the state’s Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC) to ensure a peaceful process.
The group, led by Chairman Akwuobi Francis and Secretary Pius Pamela, emphasized the need for political parties, voters, and other participants to avoid actions that could threaten peace and security. They commended the efforts of security agencies, noting their preparations for a violence-free election, and urged all authorities to remain vigilant in maintaining peace.
In light of the Supreme Court’s recent ruling granting financial autonomy to local governments, CAPSL-Initiative acknowledged the heightened stakes but stressed that elections should not be seen as a “do-or-die” affair. They called on political parties to guide their supporters and respect the democratic process.
The organization also praised Governor Prince Abiodun and security agencies for maintaining peace and improving investment opportunities in the state, while assuring residents that the issues of kidnapping and cultism were being addressed.
