Concerned residents of Borno State and leaders of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) have urged the Federal Government to appoint a Humanitarian Minister to tackle the severe flooding that has devastated the state.

They argue that appointing a dedicated minister, even on an acting basis, would be more effective than establishing temporary committees.

In a statement, spokespersons Dalori Ibrahim Bukar and Sani Yahaya Buratai called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to appoint a qualified Humanitarian Minister, recommending Hajiya Halimat Tejuosho, CEO of QAT Foundation, for the role.

The group expressed sympathy for the government and people of Borno State, urging immediate action to alleviate the impact of the floods. They also warned of potential threats from wild animals displaced by the floodwaters from the state zoo.

Emphasizing the urgency of the situation, the group stressed that the survival of Borno’s residents hinges on prompt government intervention. They appealed for the mobilization of resources and personnel to affected areas without delay.
