Nigerian actor and comedian Bovi has voiced his outrage over a disturbing viral video that shows a priest striking an altar boy during a wedding ceremony. On September 27, 2024, Bovi took to social media to share the video, condemning the incident and highlighting the lack of accountability for such abuses in Nigeria.

“I’ve been trying to ignore this video like it never happened, but after watching the priest’s apology, I’m more livid at how many forms of abuse go unchecked in Nigeria,” he wrote.

In his post, Bovi criticized the priest’s subsequent apology, which he deemed inadequate. The priest referred to his actions as a “normal correction,” claiming it was a “minor correction.” Bovi expressed his frustration, stating, “He hit a defenseless child. He humiliated that child. He harmed that child’s confidence for a very flimsy reason. Imagine if that child does something really wrong.”

Bovi underscored the seriousness of the situation, questioning the priest’s self-control in public. “A priest who couldn’t control himself in public—think about what he’s capable of behind closed doors. If we consider this normal behavior, then we are all abnormal.”

He urged the Nigerian police to take action, emphasizing the broader implications of the priest’s actions. “Knocking a kid in the head unprovoked is a violent and criminal act. @nigerianpolice, why haven’t you invited this man? Fighting for one child saves many others. We must address these small fires before they consume us.”

Bovi’s sentiments were echoed by fellow Nigerian actresses Kate Henshaw and Etinosa Idemudia, who voiced their agreement with his stance on the matter.
