The Borno State Police Command, led by Commissioner of Police CP Mohammed Lawal Yusufu, has successfully re-arrested a convict, Kyari Kur (also known as Henry), who escaped from custody due to the devastating floods that struck the region in September 2024. The floods caused significant damage, including the collapse of the prison fence.

Kyari Kur, 28, was serving a sentence for criminal conspiracy and theft at the Medium Security Custodian Center in Maiduguri. Reports indicate that an unspecified number of inmates escaped during the flood incident.

In a press statement issued on October 10, 2024, DSP Kenneth Daso, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), confirmed the re-arrest. The police received a credible tip-off about Kur’s whereabouts in Gubio town. Officers acted swiftly on the information, leading to his apprehension.

Kur has been profiled and will be handed over to the Nigeria Correctional Service for further action.

The Borno State Police Command reiterated its commitment to public safety and justice, thanking the community for its cooperation and urging residents to continue providing timely information. The Command encouraged the public to report any suspicious activities or information regarding fugitives to the nearest police station or through the following contact numbers: 0806 807 5581 and 0802 347 3293.
