President BOLA TINUBU has rejected a bill proposing to raise the retirement age of civil servants in the National Assembly to 65 years or 40 years of service, whichever comes first. Currently, the law prescribes 60 years of age or 35 years of service for retirement.
In a letter addressed to the Senate President on TUESDAY, TINUBU explained why he withheld his assent to the bill. He acknowledged the Senate’s efforts in drafting the bill but decided against signing it after thorough examination and consultation, citing the powers vested in him by the Nigerian constitution.
