I don’t take Brymo, Samklef seriously – Simi

Popular singer, Simisola Kosoko, aka Simi, has finally addressed her colleague, Brymo, and producer-turned-blogger, Samklef’s flirtatious comments about her.

DAILY POST recalls that Brymo sparked controversy last year after admitting that he demanded sex from Simi while she was unmarried before he could make music with her.

He said she rejected his request and he in turn declined to collaborate with her.

Similarly, controversial producer, Samklef recently came out to admit that he was in love with Simi during their days as struggling artists.

He explained that he didn’t ask her out because he didn’t want to mix business with pleasure.

Reacting in a recent interview with Angela Yee, Simi said there was no point in what Brymo and Samklef said about her, stressing that she couldn’t take them seriously.

The mother of one said she is confused about their rhetoric and considers their actions as comedy.

She said, “I don’t know what these people [Brymo and Samklef] are going on about. The funny thing is that these are two different people and I don’t know why they keep talking about me like that. When you even look at what they’re saying, you can’t even pick out anything. I’m still confused.

“I just feel like it doesn’t matter to me. It doesn’t change anything. My husband is speaking out for me, is he fighting for his woman as he would. I don’t feel anything about this. It doesn’t impact me. I don’t have anything to hide. If you’re going to post that you asked me out and so what? Or that I had an ex [laughs]. The whole thing to me, is more comedy than anything else.”

Appearing on Angela Yee’s podcast, ‘Way Up,’ the singer stated that a lot of people erroneously thought that they were in a romantic relationship.

She also hinted that she has a new song with Falz coming out later this month.

Simi said, “I have one more single coming out at the end of this month. I can’t say the title now but I can tell you who I’m featuring on it. It’s Falz!

“This is interesting because Falz and I have a history. Before I got married, we did an EP and everything. People thought we were dating. We had a couple of songs together and people loved them. They were like, ‘You have a good chemistry.’ So we decided to do a joint EP and we made an EP called ‘Chemistry.’ People really loved it.

“So we want to do something again for the culture. It’s kind of a funny song. I’m really excited and I can’t wait for people to hear it.”

DAILY POST recalls that Simi and Falz sparked dating rumours after releasing a joint EP titled, ‘Chemistry’ in 2016.

The rumours subsided after Simi got married to her secret lover, singer, Adekunle Gold, on January 9, 2019 in Lagos. The couple welcomed their first child, Adejare, in 2020.

Heartbreak for PSG as Hummels heads Dortmund into Champions League final

The 35-year-old’s goal secured a 1-0 win for Dortmund and a 2-0 aggregate victory over a disappointing PSG side

Mats Hummels delivered a dream performance, scoring his first Champions League goal for Borussia Dortmund in over a decade to propel them into the final at the expense of a wasteful Paris Saint-Germain.

Hummels’ last UCL strike for the club before tonight came in February 2013 against Shakhtar Donetsk.

Now, 11 years later, his towering second-half header proved to be the decisive moment.

The 35-year-old’s goal secured a 1-0 win for Dortmund and a 2-0 aggregate victory over a disappointing PSG side.

Despite hitting the woodwork a staggering six times across both legs, the French giants lacked the clinical edge needed to overcome a well-organised Dortmund.

The Bundesliga’s fifth-placed team, under the tactical guidance of Edin Terzić, displayed superior defensive discipline and a potent counter-attacking threat throughout the tie.

Though PSG were expected to dictate pace of the game with their fans fully behind them, it was Dortmund who had the upper hand in terms of goal-scoring chances in the first half.

Karim Adeyemi nearly extended Dortmund’s lead in the first half’s most threatening moment, forcing a smart save from Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Second half

Shortly after the break, the momentum shifted slightly when Warren Zaire-Emery rattled the post for PSG.

However, Dortmund regained control on the 50th minute when Hummels rose above the defense to powerfully head home Julian Brandt’s pinpoint cross. This goal felt like the decisive blow, and it proved to be just that.

PSG upped the tempo but lacked composure, hitting the woodwork three more times.

Led by the defensive pair of Hummels and Nico Schlotterbeck at the back, Dortmund remained relatively comfortable and secured a well-deserved victory.

While Dortmund can now realistically dream of a historic cup run, Kylian Mbappé’s Champions League dream with his hometown club appears over.

As they celebrate, Dortmund are waiting to see whether it’s Real Madrid or Bayern Munich – the team that defeated them at Wembley in 2013 they would be facing in this season’s final billed for Wembley again.

Explained: Why Man Utd are set for significant financial boost after Jadon Sancho’s run to Champions League final with Borussia Dortmund

  • Sancho joined Dortmund on loan deal in January
  • Helped BVB reach UCL final
  • Red Devils now set for financial boost

  • WHAT HAPPENED?

The winger joined Dortmund on loan in January after falling out with United manager Erik ten Hag. Despite failing to fire at Old Trafford, he is rekindling the form that led to the Red Devils forking out £73 million ($85m) to sign him from the German giants in 2021. Following his successful efforts to help BVB reach the Champions League final, United look set to receive a tidy sum.

    THE EXPLANATION

According to BBC Sport, the Red Devils included additional payment clauses dependent on appearances and achievements at Dortmund, meaning they could receive €4 million (£3.4m/$4.3m) in bonus payments. The report adds as the 24-year-old has featured in the majority of Dortmund’s games since joining them on loan in January, it is thought they could receive all of that £3.4m.

Toni Kroos: Real Madrid’s unsung superstar proving he is far from finished among new wave of Galacticos

Thomas Muller shouted – loudly. He’d seen Toni Kroos’ pass before anyone else, and could only watch as his international team-mate threaded a defence-splitting ball that took three Bayern Munich players out of the game, and set up Vinicius Jr for an easy finish.

That moment – one that sent Muller into a near-comical fit of rage – was emblematic of Kroos’ season in Madrid white. He is assisting at his best rate in three years, while pinging the ball around with the same vigour that made him one of the best midfielders in Europe for so long.

Kroos, once assumed to be on his way out of the Spanish capital, is a player reborn this season, and central to Los Blancos’ pursuit of a domestic-European double. Manager Carlo Ancelotti has made Kroos indispensable, a regular in a well-balanced midfield and a crucial part of a team that is two wins away from a 16th European Cup.

‘Moment of transition’

This all looked highly unlikely just over a year ago. The 2022-23 campaign was a difficult one for Madrid as Barcelona, though flawed as a side, ran away with La Liga, while Los Blancos’ Champions League hopes were ended in comprehensive fashion by a rampant Manchester City.

There were question marks all over the pitch, but Kroos was singled out by fans and his manager alike as a potential problem. In January 2023, Ancelotti even seemed to suggest that both Kroos and his long-time midfielder partner Luka Modric should prepare for a “moment of transition.” It was all very cryptic, but the message was clear: Kroos might be on his way out.

Such a decision would have made sense, too. Kroos had just one year left on his contract, while the arrival of Jude Bellingham – which was well on the way to being finalised at the time – figured to usher in a new era for Ancelotti’s side. And with Kroos’ performance levels leaving a lot to be desired, the German could perhaps have few complaints about his time at the top coming to an end.

Don’t vote for Mahama, he’ll destroy all I’ve done – Akufo-Addo

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has urged Ghanaians to vote for Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to become Ghana’s next President in the upcoming December polls.

He explained that choosing the flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), former President John Dramani, would be detrimental to the country’s development.

That, he said, was because the former President would undo the progress the country had made under his New Patriotic Party (NPP)- led administration.

“This is our election year, and the limited registration has started. Anybody who hasn’t registered and is eligible should go and register. This is because your right to vote is your power,” he said to a crowd of supporters in Doboro in the Greater Accra region, following a visit to the premises of Blue Skies Limited.

“Also, when the time is up for the voting, our job is simple. The person I defeated, my work since I took over, seems not to please him. I cannot hand over power to such a person. He will destroy whatever we have done when he comes,” the President added.

He then described Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP’s flagbearer, as the best person to continue his work and to lead Ghana into a prosperous future.

“I am pleading with you to vote for the person I have worked with for the past seven and half years. I have faith in him and I know that he will come and continue the work I have begun,” President Akufo-Addo intimated.

Registration exercsie

The parliamentary candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Hohoe Constituency has vowed to deal mercilessly with any individual who attempts to manipulate this year’s electoral process in the constituency as the country heads to the polls.

Speaking in an interview with Adom News, on the ongoing nationwide limited registration exercise, Thomas Worlanyo Tsekpo, cautioned non-indigenes of Hohoe not to attempt to register in the constituency.

He believes that, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) used similar plots to snatch the Hohoe parliamentary seat in 2020.

The NDC lost the Hohoe parliamentary seat to John Peter Amewu in 2020, marking a historical milestone for the NPP in Volta, which has not had a single seat since multiparty democracy was introduced.

As part of efforts to win the seat back, Mr. Tsekpo said he is resolved to monitor the process to ensure their counterparts do not succeed in manipulating the process.

He is also optimistic that the NDC in the Hohoe Constituency will recapture their lost seat from the NPP parliamentary candidate, John Peter-Amewu in the December 7 general elections.

Mr. Tsekpo urged all qualified applicants to go out in their numbers to the registration centers to register in the ongoing limited registration exercise.

Maame Tiwaa did not want to investigate Cecilia Dapaah’s case – Martin Kpebu

Martin Kpebu Private Legal Practitioner

Private Legal Practitioner, Martin Kpebu has chastised the head of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) for not being proactive in investigating the money laundering allegation involving former Sanitation Minister Cecilia Dapaah.

According to him, the way Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah handled the alleged money laundering case demonstrated that she had no intention of delving into the root of the matter.

His comments follow a press statement issued on Tuesday, May 7 by EOCO, in which the commission dismissed claims by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) that it did not request findings conducted with the FBI regarding an alleged money laundering case involving the former Sanitation Minister, Cecilia Dapaah.

According to EOCO, upon receiving the referral from the OSP on January 25, 2024, it promptly requested a copy of the OSP’s findings on February 1, 2024, to aid its investigations.

EOCO also indicated that, its letter dated February 1, 2024, was received at the Front Desk of the OSP by a Field Desk Officer 11, Solomon Tetteh, who duly signed for the letter on February 2, 2024.

“The Deputy Executive-Director of EOCO, Bashiru Dapilah, followed up with the OSP and discussed with Mr. Emmanuel Basintale, the Director of Investigations of the OSP, the possibility of expediting the release of the report.

“This discussion was done in the presence of the Deputy Special Prosecutor Ms Cynthia Lamptey. Mr. Basintale assured that as soon as he received clearance from the SP, the report would be released to EOCO to assist in investigations. To date, EOCO has not received any information from the OSP,” part of the statement said.

But speaking on Joy FM’s Top Story on May 7, he said there was no iota of truth in the statement since Maame Tiwaa, if she really wanted to investigate the matter, would have done so.

He argued that if it is within EOCO’s mandate to investigate such matters, then the excuses in the statement were a cover up.

“There are things she is asking for, it’s neither here nor there. If she knew she did not have the know –how, could she have asked, could she have asked that Martin Kpebu you are on radio talking, come here, what can you do, you think, what can you do about this file for me? What can you show me?

“I would have said go for the money quickly. The same powers that Kissi Agyebeng has that enabled him  to go into Madam Dapaah’s house to search and take for a period before you go to court for confirmation.

“EOCO has had their Act since 2010. So they have it and they know how to do it. I am telling you that Tiwaa really has to leave this office because we have warned her and I told you,” he said.

Speaking on the same show, Asante Akim North MP Andy Appiah Kubi said considering how events unfolded, he cannot help but agree with the legal practitioner on his stance.

He argued that from the onset, the tussle between the Office of the Special Prosecutor and The Attorney General regarding the modus operandi of the case, he cannot help but assume there is an attempt to cover some evidence.

“It is very sad for two anti-corruption agencies do what they are doing in public. It is very sad and for me reading between the lines, I see an attempt to cover some part of the evidence. These are institutions of professionals. I expect them to do better than they are doing.

“For once, I seem to side with Martin on the suspicions that he is trying to raise. You see, we have integrity crisis here because two state institutions supposed to be doing investigation in the public space coming at themselves in the public arena and openly disagreeing with each other …and not bringing us any dividend out of this investigation is really sad,” he added.

Official: Nigeria has no plans to host American, French military bases

Nigeria’s Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris

The Nigerian government said on Monday that it has no plan to host foreign military bases within its borders.

Information Minister Mohammed Idris described as “false alarms” the suspicion among observers that the government was considering approving military bases for the US and France following their ejection from neighbouring Niger.

Putschists in Niger who carried out a military coup last year ordered both French and US troops to leave the West African country.

While France has since announced the withdrawal of its troops from Niger, the US has also withdrawn most of its troops.

There have since been concerns in Nigeria that the two Western powers were mounting pressure on Nigeria to host the bases.

“The federal government is not in any such discussion with any foreign country. We have neither received nor are we considering any proposals from any country on the establishment of any foreign military bases in Nigeria,” Mr Idris wrote in a statement shared with PREMIUM TIMES.

“The Nigerian government already enjoys foreign cooperation in tackling ongoing security challenges, and the President remains committed to deepening these partnerships, with the goal of achieving the national security objectives of the Renewed Hope Agenda,” Mr Idris said.

Neither the US nor France has publicly stated any plan to request Nigeria to host their military bases.

“I haven’t seen any indication that the US intends to establish any significant military presence in Nigeria,” said James Barnett, a researcher on African Conflict.

“The US is very hesitant about most military engagement with Nigeria to start with and is already deep into talks with Côte d’Ivoire, a much more ‘US-compatable partner,” Mr Banett wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

However, various groups and security experts have cautioned the Nigerian government to reject such requests.

Over the weekend, a group of northern leaders wrote an open letter to President Bola Tinubu, asking him to tread with caution over the alleged signing of a defence pact with the US or the French government.

“Nigeria signing a defence pact with the United States of America will be a profound threat to the country’s sovereignty and independence,” said Jibrin Ibrahim, a senior fellow at the Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD) and one of the signatories to the open letter.

“The idea of a foreign imperialist power having a military base where Nigeria has no right of access, where Nigeria cannot ask questions about who is it you are sending here, where, as the agreements they have done with other countries show, they cannot show to Nigeria or the receiving countries the equipment they are bringing into the country. We feel it is a threat to our sovereignty and independence as a nation,” Mr Ibrahim said on Monday in an interview with Arise TV.

He added that Niger, which had a defence pact with the US, had sent the American troops for various reasons including the fact that they were not allowed to see the types of weapons that were being deployed and the drones that were being sent out from the bases in the country. He said that the Nigerien government did not know the composition of the weapons, or if there were nuclear materials inside, and they feared that these compositions could have an ecological impact.

Nigeria has history of rejecting US bases

In 2007, Nigeria rejected plans to host the US African military command, AFRICOM. The goal of the US military’s new Africa-wide command is to better protect America’s strategic interests in Africa and assist African countries with military training and conflict prevention.

Akufo-Addo commits to aiding local manufacturing firms

President Nana Akufo-Addo has assured local manufacturing companies in Ghana of  government’s commitment to providing necessary support, especially in light of recent economic challenges.

He made this commitment during a visit to Blue Skies Company Limited in Doboro, near Nsawam in the Eastern region.

Blue Skies is a local fruit processing firm that has been operational in Ghana for 25 years and currently employs 4,500 Ghanaians.

The President’s visit to Blue Skies comes at a critical time when both international and local companies are facing closure due to economic difficulties. This underscores the importance of government intervention to bolster the resilience of local manufacturing firms.

During the visit, Group CEO Hugh Pile highlighted the significance of government support in expanding their operations and addressing challenges in the pineapple industry.

He indicated the crucial role that government assistance would play in ensuring the growth and sustainability of local businesses.

“We believe agriculture is the beating heart of our success but the pineapple industry in this country has faced real challenges. It has shrunk and shrunk and shrunk so how can we find ways to support farmers to re-engage with pineapple.”

Following this, President Akufo-Addo expressed his admiration for the work being done at Blue Skies and assured the management of the government’s full support.

He commended the company for its significant contribution to Ghana’s economy over the past 25 years and acknowledged its role in employing thousands of Ghanaians.

The President reiterated the government’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for local businesses to thrive.

“I’m impressed with the work of the company. With people like you, there’s hope for the future. I have assured your bosses of the government’s support to the company,” he assured.

Non-functioning streetlights: UPSA students assured of safety

The University of Professional Studies (UPSA), is taking proactive steps to ensure the safety of its students in response to reports of robberies near its campus.

These incidents are often linked to the absence of functional street lights, plunging the surroundings into darkness at night.

Both students and local residents have voiced concerns over the heightened security risks arising from the lack of adequate lighting in the area.

Isabella Shamo Lokko Bukari, a UPSA student, has expressed concerns about the situation, citing numerous instances of attacks and phone snatching.

She underscored the pressing need for swift action to mitigate the security threats faced by students and residents living in proximity to the university.

“People’s phones getting snatched and people actually getting attacked on the road just because there’s no street light and I think it’s a very serious threat to both our lives and properties and I think something should be done about it” she bemoaned.
