‘Attempt to impeach Fubara will be resisted’ – Rivers Govt warns APC, says 27 lawmakers don’t exist

The Rivers State Government has slammed the All Progressives Congress, APC, over its call on the State House of Assembly to immediately commence an impeachment process against the governor of the state, Siminalayi Fubara.

The state’s Commissioner for Information and Communications, Joseph Johnson, explained that the 27 lawmakers in the State House of Assembly lacked the moral standing to impeach the governor.

The commissioner warned the APC lawmakers, who are loyal to Federal Capital Terrority, FCT, minister, Nyesom Wike, against embarking on such a venture, stressing that any attempt to impeach the governor will be resisted by the Rivers people.

DAILY POST reported that the Caretaker Committee Chairman of the APC in Rivers State, Tony Okocha, had at a press conference in Port Harcourt called on the State Assembly to quickly commence impeachment process against the governor.

Okocha stated that the impeachment was necessary because the governor “has insulted the sensibility” of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who waded in to resolve the lingering crisis in the state.

However, the Information and Communications Commissioner, in a quick response, said Okocha lacked the morality to talk about the state government, noting that Okocha was not a legitimate member of the APC.

According to the commissioner, attempts to impeach the governor would not be an easy journey, noting that the people of the state would resist such moves with their blood.

He said, “It is not going to be an easy journey. They should not imagine embarking on it because Rivers people will resist them. Rivers people will resist them because it is even baseless to think of it. They are not fighting with legitimacy; they are only fighting for their own survival. On what plank will you put that? The law says you can’t put legality on illegality.

“As far as we are concerned, they do not even have the locus standi to do that. They should not even bother to start it because Section 109(g) has settled the case. It says if an Assembly member defects from his own party that brought him to power, you automatically lose his seat. They have done that, and it is settled. Our Constitution is the grand norm.

“The court, the Supreme Court, is there to look at these elementary issues. There is also a subsisting judgement on this, so we don’t need a second opinion on whether we should respect them as Assembly members or not. The Supreme Court has already declared those seats vacant.

“Tony Okocha was just yesterday declared as not being a member of APC by a former chairman of the party, Sokonte Davies. He is a factional chairman. We want the faction led by Chief Emeka Beke to say the same thing. Okocha is standing on one leg. His call is an empty call. His advice to impeach the governor is a journey that leads nowhere, and they will not succeed. The lawmakers are not existent, and they are not seen in law.”

Reconsider Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project – YPP tells Nigerian govt.

The Young Progressives Party (YPP) has advised the Federal Government to reconsider its stand on going ahead with the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project, inspite of criticisms by the opposition.

Mr Egbeola Martins, YPP National Publicity Secretary, said this when he spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday.

Martins urged the government to place priority on the other sectors that needed immediate attention rather than go ahead with the Lagos-Calabar project.

He said that there was need for the government to prioritise critical sectors that needed immediate attention, before executing new projects.

“Just like a popular saying, the key is not to prioritise what’s on your schedule, but to schedule your priorities and this comes to mind at this critical moment with the inability of the ruling government to properly schedule their priorities.

“Especially in the midst of abject poverty made worse by the imposition of reckless and insensitive anti-masses policies.

“The Lagos-Calabar coastal project even though it is necessary, it is, however, not expedient, hence not the immediate priority of government as there are more pressing issues.

“Issues such as the poor state of education, health, power, spate of insecurity and poverty confronting the nation,” he said.

Martins said that with the array of abandoned projects such as the Ajaokuta steel project, East-West Road, and the Lagos-Abuja Supersonic Highway scattered across the country, the Lagos-Calabar project should be halted.

Court okays Ganduje’s application to summon APC ward leaders through village head

A Federal High Court has granted an application by the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Abdullahi Ganduje, for substituted service on APC Ganduje Ward executive members who suspended him from the party.

Justice Abdullahi Muhammad Liman granted the application by Ganduje’s lawyer, Hadiza Nasiru Ahmad, on Tuesday.

The ward executives, led by one Haladu Gwanjo and eight others, suspended Ganduje from the party on April 15 for alleged infractions.

The Federal High Court had on April 18 granted an interim order asking parties to maintain status quo pending the hearing and determination of the fundamental rights enforcement suit filed by Ganduje against his suspension.

The APC national chairman is seeking a declaration from the court that his suspension from the party by the ward executives was illegal and ultra-vire, having not allowed him to defend himself, which he said amounts to a denial of his fundamental right.

Ganduje is also seeking N100 million in general damages against the respondents for violating his right to a fair hearing.

His counsel explained that after the respondents are served with the court summons through the village of Ganduje in Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area of Kano State, a date will be fixed for hearing in the matter.

Justice Usman Na’Abba of the Kano State High Court had on April 17 granted an interim order affirming the suspension of the APC national chairman by his APC ward executive members.

Edo guber: Obaseki, Ighodalo, PDP panic over imminent defeat – APC leaders claim

Ahead of the Edo State governorship election, some All Progressives Congress, APC, leaders on Tuesday claimed that the action of governor Godwin Obaseki and other leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, lately showed a panic mood in their camp.

The leaders, in a statement, accused Governor Obaseki, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the state and its candidate, Asue Ighodalo, of sponsoring campaign of calumny against the governorship candidate of APC, Senator Monday Okpebholo.

The leaders, who are members of the APC Vanguard, said the PDP, Obaseki and Ighodalo have suddenly become desperate, over fears that they will suffer a humiliating defeat in the upcoming governorship polls.

A group, Network of Civil Society Organisations in Nigeria, recently held a press conference and also petitioned the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), among others, over claims that Okpebholo sprayed the naira at a public function.

In a statement signed by the national coordinator of the Vanguard, David Osarobo, the leaders wondered why “desperate Obaseki and his political godson, Ighodalo”, will resort to character assassination in order to score cheap political points.

He said leaders of the civil society were heavily induced to tarnish the image of Okpebholo, whose popularity they said, has hit the roofs since his emergence as the candidate of the APC.

Osarobo said: “Godwin Obaseki, the crisis-ridden PDP and their novice candidate, Ighodalo, have decided to resort to cheap blackmail. They know that they will lose the election and they are jittery.

“They are scouting for fake news and non-existent things to blackmail Okpebholo and lie to Edo people.

“Unfortunately for them, we know what they are up to. They are smelling the defeat already. Edo people have already decided and no amount of State-sponsored intimidation will work.

“In Edo State, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led APC administration is working. The Federal Government is reconstructing federal roads in Edo Central, Edo North and Edo South. The APC-led Federal Government is planning to implement other social welfare programmes in Edo State.

“That is why it is imperative for Edo people to take sides with the APC and vote for Okpebholo as the next governor of Edo State.

“There is no going back. We must liberate Edo State from the grip of mini tyrants and economic scavengers who want to use our commonwealth to enrich themselves. Edo State deserves a home-grown solution to the many problems created by Obaseki’s clueless administration.”

The kidnappers raided the village for about one hour without any response, reaction from the community or outsiders. The major challenge the community faced last night in terms of communication to others was as a result of no telecommunication network in the village, so they picked people house to house.

“From the community they picked about 13 people, and later released three.

“The Madakin Piko informed me that they have called and they said they need the ramson of N900 million. They picked about four Fulani people and one of them later escaped.”

The Federal Capital Territory FCT Minister, Ezenwo Nyesom Wike had recently provided logistic support, including motorcycles for hard-to-reach areas, for security agencies in the territory.

In a similar event last week, the residents of Bmuko community in Dutse Baupma axis of Bwari area council in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, were thrown into a state of panic after four individuals were kidnapped from the community.

According to a resident of the community, who goes by the name Isah, the incident took place around 11:50 PM at the residence of one Engineer Patrick.

According to him, the kidnappers who were more than 30 in number stormed Zone C, Road 5 of the community and shot sporadically into the air, before they broke into the house of the engineer and abducted two of his family members.

From the engineer’s house, after carrying his wife and brother, they divided themselves into two groups. One group went towards the riverside that leads to Kubwa and Bwari, while the other group went towards the hillside.

She said that the application is dated Dec. 8, 2023.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is prosecuting Naira Marley on charges bordering on cyber crime.

IThe anti-graft agency preferred the charges on May 14, 2019

Fashola, who sang the popular song: “Am I a yahoo boy”, was consequently, arraigned on May 20, 2019 before Justice Nicholas Oweiboo, but he had pleaded not guilty.

Justice Oweibo had accordingly, granted him bail in the sum of two million naira, with two sureties in like sum.

Trial has since commenced in the case and witnesses were still being led in evidence, but Justice Oweibo, who was later transfered out of the Lagos division of the court.

The case was therefore, transferred to a new judge Dipeolu.

When the case was called for the first time before Justice Dipeolu, Buhari appeared for the prosecution while Mr V.C Maduagwu, appeared for the defendant.

Defence counsel also confirmed the position as stated by the prosecutor to the court.

Following information of the pending application for fiat as brought to the attention of the new judge by counsel, the court consequently, adjourned the case until May 30 for report.

According to the EFCC, the defendant committed the offences on different dates between Nov. 26, 2018 and Dec.11, 2018, as well as May 10, 2019.

The commission alleged that Fashola and his accomplices conspired to use different Access Bank ATM cards to defraud their victims.

It alleged that the defendant used a bank credit card issued to another person, in a bid to obtain fraudulent financial gains.

The EFCC also said that the defendant possessed counterfeit credit cards belonging to different people, with intent to defraud which amounted to theft.

The alleged offences contravene the provisions of Sections 1 23 (1) (b), 27 (1) and 33(9) of Cyber Crime (Prohibition) Prevention Act, 2015.

“Cybersecurity levy designed to milk a dying economy” — Peter Obi

Peter Obi, the Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 general election, has expressed his opinion on the newly introduced Cybersecurity levy by the President Bola Tinubu-led Federal Government.

Obi believes that this levy is one tax too many and finds the implementation excessive and raises concerns about its impact on the public.

“Cyber security levy designed to milk a dying economy” — Peter Obi

Recall that the Central Bank of Nigeria on Monday directed banks to begin charging 0.5% cybersecurity levy on transactions.

A circular released by the apex bank said the implementation of the levy would begin two weeks from the day of its announcement.

The circular was directed to all commercial, merchant, non-interest and payment service banks.

The circular revealed that it was a follow-up on an earlier letter dated June 25, 2018 (Ref: BPS/DIR/GEN/CIR/05/008) and October 5, 2018 (Ref: BSD/DIR/GEN/LAB/11/023), in compliance with the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, Etc.) Act 2015.

Peter Obi in his reaction to this, noted that the tax is ill conceived and designed to milk a dying economy.

The former Anambra State Governor said this in a series of tweets on his X handle, on Wednesday.

According to him, instead of nurturing the economy back to health and growth, the current administration with its  multiple taxation,  is more interested in heaping additional burdens on Nigerians who are already under severe economic stress.

Obi said,  “The  introduction of yet another tax, in the form of Cybersecurity Levy, on Nigerians who are already suffering severe economic distress is further proof that the government is more interested in milking a dying economy instead of nurturing it to recovery and growth.

“This does not only amount to multiple taxation on banking transactions, which are already subject to various other taxes including stamp duties but negates the Government’s avowed commitment to reduce the number of taxes and streamline the tax system.

“The imposition of a Cybersecurity Levy on bank transactions is particularly sad given that the tax is on the trading capital of businesses and not on their profit hence will further erode whatever is left of their remaining capital, after the impact of the Naira devaluation high inflation rate.

“It is inconceivable to expect the suffering citizens of Nigeria to separately fund all activities of the government.

“Policies such as this not only impoverish the citizens but make the country’s economic environment less competitive.

“At a time when the government should be reducing taxes to curb inflation, the government is instead introducing new taxes. And when did the office of the NSA become a revenue-collecting center?

Catholic Bishop seeks support for victims of Plateau crisis

The Catholic Bishop of Pankshin in Plateau State, Most Rev. Michael Gokum, has urged the Federal Government to urgently provide support to victims of crisis in the state.

Gokum made the appeal on Sunday at the launch of the 2024 Lenten Campaign held at Christ the King Catholic Church, Dyis, in Pankshin Local Government Area of the state.

DAILY POST reports that gunmen recently attacked communities in Mangu, Bokkos and Barkin Ladi LGA, leaving many persons dead and scores displaced.

The cleric, who lamented the upsurge of humanitarian crisis following the attacks in many other communities in the state, called on government to provide succour to them.

”As we are all aware, communities in Plateau have come under series of attacks in recent past and these attacks brought about increasing humanitarian crisis in the state.

”Many communities are displaced, meaning that all the residents of these communities are taking refuge elsewhere.

”I’m using this medium to call on the federal government to urgently come to the aid of these people; they are not finding it easy.

”From my interactions with many of them, I realise that they are eager to return to their homes, so government should expedite action to enable them return to their original abodes,” he said.

He also called on the government to adopt more stringent modalities toward the safety of lives and property in the state and across the nation.

Looting of NEMA warehouse, symptom of impending revolution – Shehu Sani warns

Former lawmaker and social critic, Senator Shehu Sani, has reacted to the alleged looting of a warehouse belonging to the National Emergency Management Agency of Nigeria, NEMA, by some residents of the Federal Capital Terrritory, FCT.

According to Sani, the development is a dangerous symptom of an impending revolution.

DAILY POST reported some residents of the FCT had looted a warehouse belonging to the NEMA amid the current economic hardship across the country.

It was gathered that the residents carted away foodstuffs and other items.

“Masses looting foodstuffs from a Government Warehouse in our oil rich Nigeria is a dangerous symptom of an impending revolution that must be averted or contained,” he wrote on his X handle on Sunday.

Recall that the International Monetary Fund, IMF, had said that stalled per-capita growth, poverty and high food insecurity have exacerbated the ongoing cost-of-living crisis in Nigeria.

The report emerged amid rising inflation, exchange rate crisis, weak economic growth and business shutdowns.

Military forcefully took away suspected oil bunkerers from police custody – IGP tells court

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP, has told a Federal High Court in Abuja that the military forcefully took away some suspects allegedly involved in oil bunkering from police custody.

Counsel to the IGP, Idris Mohammed, revealed this to Justice James Omotosho when the matter was called for the alleged oil bunkerers to take their plea in a five-count criminal charge filed against them.

The IGP had, in an earlier charge marked: FHC/ABJ/CR/60/2024, listed 19 alleged oil bunkerers for prosecution.

They include MT Harbor Spirit, Muhammad Malik Sidique, Joju Oil and Gas Ltd, Shittu Joseph, Enudi Kenneth Amechi, Jeremiah Oberhiri Nyohe, Abiodun Kolapo Joseph, Razaq Mahmud, Onwe Jonas Egana, Jeremiah Fezighe Gilbert as 1st to 10th defendants.

Also joined in the criminal charge dated and filed February.15 are Idon Simeon Amon, Adedeji Nathaniel Thomson, Effiong Ekpo Otu, Preye Moses Egbuson, Opoufoni Owei, Abiodun Razaq, Youngstar Amon, Collins Ebuka Eluche and Taiye Rashid Balogun as 11th to 19th defendants respectively.

However, the police, in an amended charge dated and filed February 28, brought criminal charges against only MT Harbor Spirit, a Vessel, Muhammad Malik Sidique and Joju Oil and Gas Ltd as 1st to 3rd defendants, respectively.

In the amended charge, count one read that MT Harbor Spirit, Muhammad Malik Sidique, Joju Oil and Gas Ltd and the 4th to 19th defendants in the earlier charge (now at large) “on February 4, 2024, in the Deep Sea in Ogbogoro Oil Field, Brass Area of Bayelsa State, conspired” to tamper with oil pipeline for the transportation of crude oil.

The offence, according to the prosecution, is punishable under Section 1(7) of the Miscellaneous Offences Act, Cap M17, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.

In count two, the defendants and others now at large were alleged to have on February. 4 in the Deep Sea in Ogbogoro Oil Field, Brass Area of Bayelsa State, wilfully tampered with OML 59, Ogbogoro 001 Oil Field, operated by ELF for the transportation of crude oil.

In count three, the defendants were alleged to be dealing in about 80, 000 litres of crude oil without lawful authority or appropriate license.

Count five accused the defendants of storing about 80, 000 litres of crude oil in MT Harbour Spirit Cargo Tanks in the Deep Sea in Ogbogoro Oil Field without appropriate licence contrary to Section 4 of the Petroleum Act, Cap P10, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.

However, at the point of taking their plea, the IGP’s lawyer, Mohammed, informed the court that Muhammad Malik Sidique was the only defendant in court.

He said though a five-count charge dated and filed on February 15 was preferred against 19 defendants and that the 4th to 19th defendants were forcefully taken away by the armed forces during one of their visits to their custody.

The lawyer prayed the court to issue warrant of arrest against the 4th to 19th defendants who he alleged were at large.

But Justice Omotosho faulted Mohammed for claiming that the 4th to 19th defendants were at large when he had earlier told the court that the armed forces forcefully took them away.

The judge frowned at the abuse of the word “at large” adding that such words are used for suspects or defendants whose whereabouts are unknown.

“With what you have said that the armed forces took them to their custody, are they at large? At large is when somebody cannot be traced,” the judge said.

The IGP’s lawyer, thereafter, sought the leave of court to amend the amended charges in open court.

But the judge observed more anomalies with the charge sheet and then ordered the prosecution to go and put his house in order.

“Go and serve them there (at the military custody) and bring them or you remove their names from the charge. We are here for justice. I don’t know them,” he directed.

The IGP’s lawyer, then, told the judge that the police did not hand over the defendants to the military, rather, they forcefully took them away from their custody.

Counsel for the defendants, Michael Mbanefo, did not oppose to the further amendment of the charge.

However, Mbanefo urged the court to direct the prosecution to agree with him and grant Sidique administrative bail because he had been in custody since his arrest.

But Justice Omotosho declined, saying “the court does not grant administrative bail”.

Justice Omotosho thereafter adjourned the arraignment of the alleged oil bunkerers til March 6.

Customs sets 90-day window for duty payment on improperly imported vehicles

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), under the directive of the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, has announced a 90-day window for regularizing import duties on specific categories of vehicles.

The window is meant to streamline import processes.

A statement by the National Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Customs Service, Chief Superintendent of Customs Abdullahi Maiwada, on Sunday, said, “This initiative applies solely to vehicles imported into Nigeria where the requisite customs duty has not been fulfilled or vehicles detained due to undervaluation.

“While we strive for inclusivity, it is important to clarify that vehicles seized and condemned will not be released under this arrangement and shall be forfeited to the Federal Government in accordance with extant regulations.”

He added that all vehicle owners, and Importers/Agents seeking to regularize import duties on their vehicles are required to apply to the Zonal Coordinators (Zones A, B, C, D) and CAC FCT Command, saying that they must submit the necessary available documents and process Vreg in line with the Federal Ministry of Finance directives for the registration of imported motor vehicles.

The statement explained that valuation and assessment of the vehicles would be carried out using the VIN valuation method, with import Duty and a 25 per cent penalty shall be paid in tandem with the import guidelines, procedures, and documentation requirements for used vehicles under the Destination Inspection Scheme in Nigeria (2013) and the Nigeria Customs Service Act 2023.

It added that duty payments must be made using the Procedure Code specifically created for this exercise.

“This initiative reflects our unwavering commitment to facilitating compliance. We encourage all stakeholders to capitalize on this opportunity within the stipulated timeframe,” the statement explained.

Hardship: I knew they will deploy clerics – Aisha Yesufu reacts to ‘end time’ message

Amid worsening economic hardship and hunger in the country, a social critic and human rights activist, Aisha Yesufu, says she knew politicians would deploy clerics to confuse Nigerians.

Yesufu was reacting to a statement credited to an Abuja cleric and Senior Pastor of the Shepherd House Assembly International, Reverend Joshua Talena, that the current global unrest signals the approaching end times.

The cleric during a Sunday service in Abuja, emphasized that the scriptures foretold of widespread unrest, wickedness, hunger, and other evils in the final days.

Talena also pointed to insecurity in certain regions of the country as evidence of the end times, urging congregants not to lose hope.

However, Yesufu said she knew a time would come when they (referring to political leaders) will deploy the clerics.

She said: “I knew they will soon deploy the clerics!

“Didn’t the Prophet (SAW) tell us that signs of last days will include everyone being so rich that who to give Zakkah to will become a challenge to find?”

Eluwa, who made the call in Umuahia, alleged that the group was becoming a source of fear to the people and a willing tool of oppression.

He alleged that the group attacked him at the invitation of his nephews when he attempted to evict them from his father’s house.

According to him, his nephews, who are the sons of his sister, have been living in his father’s house for many years after his sister had issues with the husband but regretted that they are causing problems for his aged father and their mother.

“I came back from Canada just to make sure there’s peace in my father’s house because I’m the only son. I gave money to my nephews to rent an apartment elsewhere so that my father who is very old, and my sister, can have peace,” he said.

Eluwa explained that he reported the matter to the Police.

But he said that some policemen who came to the community to handle the matter were attacked by members of the local security outfit who, according to him, also tried to seize an AK 47 riffle belonging to one of the cops.

He called for the disbandment of the security outfit, and a thorough investigation of their activities.

“The community has been living in fear of this group, and they are afraid to talk,” he added.

Eluwa who said that his nephews are now at large, cried out that they are still threatening him, using men of the community security outfit to harass him.

He further called on the Inspector General of Police to come to the aid of the community, and investigate the activities of the said vigilante group.

However, when contacted, Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, of Abia State Command, ASP Maureen Chinaka, said the matter has not been brought to her notice.

She advised Eluwa to report the matter to the Commissioner of Police detailing what happened, including the alleged threat to his life, for proper investigations.

‘Return on investment in Nigeria mouth watering’ – Tinubu woos Qatari investors

Despite economic uncertainties and the initial hurdle that trailed President Bola Tinubu’s visit to Qatar, the Nigerian President made attempts to woo investors in his host country on Sunday, telling them there is nowhere in the world where one will find return on investment at the level of what is obtainable in Nigeria.

He said Nigeria boasts of a massive market of over 200 million skilled workers, who are always industrious and ready to work.

His marketing of Nigeria to the Qatari government preceded the signing of historic agreements between both nations, opening a gateway for leveraging the potential of mutual cooperation in pivotal sectors of education, enterprise development, investment promotion, youth empowerment, mining, tourism, and sports.

Tinubu while meeting with His Highness, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Emir of the State of Qatar, on Sunday in Doha, said Nigeria’s greatest strength lies in the people.

“Our strength lies in the capacity of Nigerian youths. They have energy, talent, and self-belief. They are quality partners for Qatari industry.

“They are educated and reliable, and they are proactively seeking to add value wherever they are. A few cannot give a bad name to the many. Nigerian youths are ready to be unleashed for the mutual benefit of both nations.

“We have seen clearly the rapid pace and thorough quality of Qatar’s development process. It is impossible not to be moved by what you have accomplished. The leadership in the country has proven its mettle, and we are here to gain deeper insight.

“We face some short-term turbulence at the moment, but we have a government today that reflects the dynamism and talent of the Nigerian people.

“We are implementing the right solutions. This team works collaboratively with each other and our partners. Nigeria is ready for serious business,” the President stated.

Prior to the signing ceremony at the Qatar Presidential Palace, Tinubu assured his host of Nigeria’s preparedness to welcome investors into the country, noting the ongoing reforms that favour innovation, return on investments, and multiculturalism.

On his part, the Emir of the State of Qatar, His Highness, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, emphasized that Qatar is open to Tinubu’s investment push, recalling that he traveled to Nigeria in 2019 owing to his belief that Nigeria is an important and strategic ally on its own and within the context of its role in regional affairs.

“I have no doubt about the great capacity of the Nigerian people. Everywhere in the world, they are known for their brilliance and hard work. We only need to ensure that this is happening inside of Nigeria rather than outside.

“The investments we have made around the world have been very fruitful. This is because we take our time and study opportunities before we invest the common wealth of our people. It is not my money. The money we invest belongs to the future generations of Qatar.

“Mr President, I am very encouraged by your actions and your passion to create new opportunities. We are very open to this, and follow-up is everything at this point.

“The will is there for both of us, but we must follow up. I will send a team of officials to Nigeria after Ramadan, and we will advance discussions on what some of the actionable investment opportunities are,” the Qatari leader said.

Tinubu immediately named the Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance, Mr Wale Edun, as the team leader of the government team that will interface with Qatari authorities in investment identification and implementation moving forward.

Recall that a memo had emanated from the Qatar Embassy stepping down a business meeting between Tinubu and the leader of the host country before it was retracted.
