NSCDC arrests 45-year-old suspected serial rapist in Kwara

Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kwara State Command, has nabbed a 45-year-old Prophet Olayinka Ajiboye, for allegedly defiling three minors.

All the minors who fall within the age bracket of 13–17 years are residents of Agah Village, Ilorin South Local Government Area of Kwara State.

It was gathered that the suspect, who specializes in harassing and sexually assaulting minors, has been under the surveillance of the command following several complaints about his nefarious activities.

He was arrested after a tip-off on Tuesday, May 7, 2024.

Spokesman of the command, Ayoola Michael Shola, in a statement on Thursday, said “investigation revealed that the suspect is the General Overseer of Divine Land of Joy Prayer Ministry located in Agah village and has sexually assaulted several members of the church, as reported by the victims.”

“One of the victims, Joy Godfrey, who bravely reported the case at the Gender Unit of the command on April 3, 2024, revealed horrifying details of her ordeal. She disclosed that Prophet Olayinka Ajiboye lured her into an unfamiliar house in Sango and sexually assaulted her.

“Additionally, he compelled her to swear with the Bible and instructed her never to discuss the incident with anyone, threatening her with fatal consequences if she dared to speak about it.

“The second victim who suffered similar abuse (name withheld) also revealed that the suspect started having canal knowledge with her at the age of 16. She further disclosed that the suspect impregnated her and gave her drugs to abort the baby, resulting in severe bleeding that lasted for several months. The suspect threatened to kill her if she reveals their illicit relationship to anyone.”

“The third victim (name withheld), who is also a member of the church, disclosed that the suspect defiled her at the age of 13. She mentioned that she couldn’t report to her mother because the suspect consistently threatened her, warning that she would die if she exposed him to anyone.”

The spokesman further disclosed that the suspect confessed to the crime, blaming his act on the devil.

NSCDC State Commandant, Umar Mohammed, expressed concern over the infamous act and directed the Head of Gender Unit to conduct a detailed investigation and ensure that the suspect is prosecuted diligently.”

He also appealed to the public to support the command’s fight against all forms of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and assured that perpetrators would be prosecuted in accordance with the laws of the land.

Herdsman allegedly chops off farmer’s hand in Kaduna community

A suspected herdsman, Wuzaipa Salisu, has allegedly cut the hand of a farmer, Bitrus Chawai, in Damakasuwa community, Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

DAILY POST gathered that the victim, Bitrus Chawai, according to Barnabas, his younger brother, had travelled home ahead of this year’s farming when he was attacked by the herder.

Barnabas told DAILY POST on Wednesday that, “The victim (Bitrus), a former NULGE Chairman in the Kauru Local Government Area and currently a trustee at the state level, visited his home on Sunday to clear the land in preparation for this year’s farming.”

He further explained that his elder brother went to his farm, which is not more than 200km from their family house and discovered that cows entered one of his farms and ate beans, saying that he approached the boy only to be attacked.

According to him, “Their target was to machete his head, but he used his hand to shield his head. As a result, his arm was chopped off.”

He explained that attacks by herdsmen on people in the community have been continuous, noting that two people were similarly attacked last year.

Barnabas stated that their father personally took him (the victim) to the Divisional Police Station in Damakasuwa, Kauru Local Government Area, to lay a complaint to them for their prompt attention in order to bring the perpetrator to face the full wrath of the law.

He lamented, “As we speak, my brother has been bleeding profusely since yesterday (Tuesday); we have been referred to another hospital in Kaduna.”

The spokesperson for the state’s police command, ASP Mansir Hassan, did not respond to calls and text messages sent to him.

Ban on party activities: Benue APC chieftain sues Gov Alia

Worried by the continued barricade of Benue State’s secretariat of the All Progressive Congress, APC, by the police and the ban on all the activities of the party on the order of Governor Hyacinth Alia, a chieftain of the party and a legal practitioner, Vershima Akaangee has filed a fundamental human rights suit challenging the order.

Akaangee, in suit No. MHC/845M/2024, is also challenging the constitutionality of the order banning political activities by Governor Alia.

Joined in the suit as first, second, third and fourth respondents, respectively, are the Inspector General of Police; Commissioner of Police, Benue State Command; Governor Alia of Benue State; and the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice and Public Order, Benue State.

According to the suit, Barrister Akaangee, kicked against the letter by the 3rd respondent, placing an embargo on political meetings, the use of the APC state secretariat by the 2nd respondent and the lack of action by the state actors. He added that he was seeking the enforcement of his fundamental human rights to peaceful assembly and association, which the respondents and their agents have violated and have continued to infringe despite the clear provision of Section 40 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The applicant further stated that the continuous barricade of the APC state secretariat situated at No. 75 J.S. Tarka Way, Makurdi, Benue State, by the 1st to 4th respondents, thereby preventing registered members, including the applicant, from accessing and/or carrying out political activities, is a total violation of fundamental rights.

In the suit, the applicant sought an order from the court directing the respondents to remove the barricade and vacate the premises and the road leading to the Benue APC State Secretariat forthwith.

He also sought an order of the court restraining the 1st to 4th respondents, either by themselves, servants, agents or representatives, from interfering with the rights to peaceful assembly and association of the applicant, aimed at frustrating members of the APC in Benue State, among others. In addition, he also sought an order awarding N5 billion damages against the respondents for infringing on his fundamental human rights.

He urged the court to hold that the 3rd respondent cannot compel registered members of APC in Benue State against their will to abandon a national political party for a faction that has no fruits and, also urged the court to hold and grant this application in the interest of justice.

May 23, 2024, has been fixed for the hearing of the case.

It can be recalled that Gov Alia in March 2024 ordered security agencies to lock up the state secretariat of APC in Makurdi, citing escalating insecurity, but findings have revealed that the order was a result of the ongoing supremacy battle between the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume and the governor, which has led to the party splintering into two factions. The faction chaired by Austin Agada is backed by Akume while the other, chaired by Benjamin Omakolo, is pro-Alia.

The A&R, Hype Man, Party King: Get to Know Jay Breeze

Jay Breeze has established himself as a prominent Lagos party host, renowned for events like “To the Max” and “Ridim and Vibes.” He’s known for creating electric atmospheres and attracting a star-studded clientele at his ‘DTF Sunday parties’.

Jay Breeze’s talents extend far beyond the music scene. As a respected A&R, he has a keen eye for talent. His infectious energy on stage as a hype man and his influence on Lagos nightlife has earned him a loyal following. He’s renowned for creating immersive party experiences that keep the energy high all night long.

Born Oguntade Oluwatosin Tofunmi, Jaybreeze’s path to musical success wasn’t a straight line. His passion for music stemmed from a deep love for drumming, where at the tender age of nine, he was already pocketing a cool N200 playing at church. But a large part of his musical enthusiasm can be attributed to his father. “My dad’s music taste was vast,” Jaybreeze expresses. “He would listen to everything from Kool and the Gang to Lionel Richie, and everything in between, local and foreign, like King Sunny Ade.”

According to Jaybreeze, his greatest asset for music is his ear. This allowed him to absorb these diverse influences, refining them into a sound that fueled his desire to create music himself.

I pick up sounds from anything I hear,” he says. “I store them in my body and then one day, it just pops back up. So I felt like every single thing that I would listen to with my dad, on those road trips and early morning school drives, had a way of influencing and shaping my music taste.

Jay Breeze’s love for music wasn’t the only force that propelled him into the entertainment industry. His journey began by managing artists like Reekado Banks. This experience naturally led him to club promotions, where his infectious energy and talent for hyping the crowd blossomed. He quickly established himself as a nightlife connoisseur.

Jay Breeze possesses a combination of skills relevant to the entertainment industry. These skills include music knowledge, artist relations experience, crowd engagement techniques, and an understanding of the nightlife scene. He suggests that this combination allows him to analyze music, develop promotional strategies, and stay informed about industry trends.

While his energetic persona ignites the stage, there’s a quieter side to Jaybreeze, a creative who possesses a calmness that allows him to tap into that electrifying energy when needed. He explains that when he’s on stage, he’s completely immersed in the moment, oblivious to it. everything else.

He emphasises that to feel the infectious vibe he offers, the audience has to connect with his energy on an emotional level. Originality, he says, is key.

I could be in a room filled with the biggest celebrities in the world and I act like I don’t see any one of them when I’m on the mic,” he says. “I concentrate on what I have to do and focus on the vibe. Also, to be here this long, you have to be talented. Because after a while, the talent has to sustain you. I think the last one is solid relationships, he elaborates.

Learning from club promotions and working as a hype man became a crucial asset in Jaybreeze’s musical pursuit. He skillfully draws from each of his talents, forging a continuous connection between them.

As a nightlife enthusiast, Jaybreeze has successfully hosted two annual nightlife events titled “To The Max.” What began as a way to celebrate his birthday has transformed into a yearly event, with Tiwa Savage gracing the stage at the first edition.

To The Max, as the name implies, literally means everything on 10,” he describes the concept. “From production to sound to the DJs’ vibe and the energy from the crowd, it’s always been a ten out of ten experience.

DTF Sundays is another brainchild of Jaybreeze, a thriving weekly party in Lagos. It’s a haven for free spirits and party lovers.

“DTF Sundays is an avenue for people to just be themselves, have fun, and not worry about judgement,” explains Jaybreeze. This welcoming atmosphere, where everyone feels comfortable letting loose, perfectly reflects his personality. “You can just be yourself around me,” he emphasises.

The success of DTF Sundays isn’t a fluke. Jaybreeze curates a range of events with distinct vibes. There are rooftop R&B and hip-hop nights (Adam’s Soul Beach on Tuesdays), Lagos Love Piano events featuring live piano music, and even a bi-monthly sound festival.

Jaybreeze’s music career is the icing on the cake of his multifaceted career. The passion with which he describes how he leverages the knowledge and resources from his other skills to excel in his music is truly inspiring. From his expertise in artist relations, which allows him to dissect music in its raw form and collaborate with artists to maximize a track’s magic, to applying trends gleaned from his clubbing experiences to tailor his music for his audience, and the hypeman skills that infuse his sound with undeniable energy, Jaybreeze brings a holistic approach to his music.

Jaybreeze’s creative process is as unique as he is. He can conjure up melodies in the most unexpected places – such as a crowded dance floor. “I could be in the midst of a loud-ass party and something as quiet as an R&B event can come to my head,” These sparks of inspiration are meticulously captured by him and transformed into sonic masterpieces.

He sees himself as an artist of precision, carefully crafting soundscapes that bring his musical visions to life. Jaybreeze thinks of himself as an artist with precision, and his hate for blank shots has him carefully calculating ways to create magic thoughts in his head.

These bursts of inspiration transform into meticulously crafted plans in his head. Jaybreeze sees himself as a precise artist, with a deep aversion to wasted efforts. He meticulously calculates ways to bring his sonic visions to life.

While collaborations with big names like Bigiano and Tiwa Savage pepper his discography, Jaybreeze has a solo project simmering on the back burner. This project won’t just be music; it will be an embodiment of everything he is – his energy, his story, the pulse of Lagos, and the infectious vibes he brings to everything he touches.

“It’s going to be an embodiment of myself, energy, representation, lifestyle, the city that I’m from and then the vibes that I give, literally what I represent”.

In the Nigerian music scene, Jay Breeze bridges the gap between hypeman and artist. His captivating stage presence as a hypeman is matched by his musical creativity. A champion for defying expectations, he challenges the limitations often associated with the hypeman role. By requesting to be introduced as a hypeman first, he makes a bold statement, demonstrating his desire to break boundaries and redefine the artistic potential of the position

Jay Breeze recognizes his well-rounded skillset as a gift that fuels his passion for the entertainment industry. While navigating the complexities of managing his career, he leverages the beautiful interconnection between his various talents.

Each experience serves as a building block, informing and strengthening the others. This interconnectedness fuels his creative fire and propels him towards achieving his goals

Why being a single mother kills women faster – Bimpe Akintunde

Nollywood actress, Bimpe Akintunde addresses the challenges of being a single mother while sharing the journey of how she had her child.

During an interview with fellow actress, Biola Bayo on her podcast Talk To B, Bimpe discussed how being a single mother is detrimental to a woman’s well-being.

Bimpe Akintunde

She expressed that single motherhood is not something anyone desires, but circumstances sometimes lead to it, citing men’s natural inclination towards polygamy.

Bimpe Akintunde urged men to take responsibility when they impregnate a woman and become part of the family.

“I keep telling people that being a single mom is not what anyone prays for; there is nothing that kills a woman faster than single parenting. Recently, a lot of people don’t care; we have surrogate mothers, they won’t even show you their husband, they will just show you their child. I’m thankful for my journey because if hadn’t given birth 8 years ago, I may single be childless. Any man that puts a child in a woman must take responsibility even if you’re drunk while doing it.”

She further highlighted how she struggled all by herself to raise her child alone, sold her car and still could not cope while her baby daddy had yet to claim the child.

Bimpe revealed that she had to seek public help as a single mother from a foundation when she won relief items that helped her through.

“If not for families, siblings, and others, I wouldn’t have scaled through that phase,” she added.

Bimpe Akintunde on advice to single mothers

“Every single mother out there, don’t give up on yourself, and your baby. As a single mother, your child’s future lies in your hands. Even if you separate from your partner, take your child with you.”

Speaking on being in a polygamous marriage

“Men are polygamous in nature and that is something every woman should have at the back of their minds. I feel more at peace knowing that he’s at the house of his other wives when he’s not with me. Over 70% of men are polygamous; if they are not seeing other women now, they will do it in the future.”

Food critic Opeyemi Famakin says Nigerian women only love men conditionally

He acknowledged that there are some exceptions to the rule.

Food critic Opeyemi Famakin says that men are not loved unconditionally

Speaking on the recent episode of the BTS Reality podcast hosted by Jermaine, on the topic of unconditional love, Famakin asserted that men in Nigeria are only loved under certain conditions.

He said, “I can speak in the Nigerian context and I can say that men are loved but it is very conditional. Women would say this and that but in my own opinion I think the love for men is purely conditional. There are exceptions, yes. But generally speaking, it is very conditional, we are loved on conditions.”

One of the conditions the critic stated was “potential,” asserting that Nigerian women would love and stay with a man who is still discovering himself if they see potential in him.

“When Nigerian girls see potential they can invest in potential. If a man is growing slowly one year is fine but if there’s no progress for five years, I’ll say she should leave the man. But if she loves him and wants to stay, I won’t encourage her to be with the man,” he stated.

Famakin emphasised that he wouldn’t suggest that a woman stay with a man who is still “finding himself” after five years.

“Imagine if your sister is dating a guy that is finding his footing for five years, he’s slowly growing. Would you encourage her to stay? Cho Cho Cho, no workings,” he said to Jermaine in between fits of laughter.

Court gives fresh order in purported move to unseat Damagun as PDP acting chair

In March 2023, Damagum assumed the role of interim chairman of the PDP after Iyorchia Ayu was suspended.

The lawsuit, which has drawn the attention of the legal community, involves the PDP, its national working committee (NWC), national executive committee (NEC), board of trustees (BoT), and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the respondents.

Justice Peter Lifu, presiding over the case, issued the ruling on May 3, temporarily prohibiting the respondents from appointing a replacement for Damagum until a further decision is made on the matter.

As quoted by TheCable, the ruling reads, “The defendants/respondents are hereby restrained in the interim from appointing, selecting, or nominating any person to replace Amb. Umar Illiya Damagum as national chairman or acting national chairman of the 1st defendant/respondent pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice already filed, which is herein fixed against May 14, 2024,” the judge ruled.

“The defendants/respondents, by themselves, agents, privies, or by any proxy, are hereby in the interim restrained from, according to recognition, any person other than Amb. Umar Illiya Damagum as acting national chairman of the 1st defendants/respondents or giving effect to or acting upon any document purporting to be signed by the national chairman or acting national chairman of the 1st defendant without the name and signature of Amb. Umar Illiya Damagum, pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice already filed in court in the instant suit.

“The applicants are herein ordered to enter into a fresh undertaking to pay damages to the respondents (to be assessed by the court) if, at the end of the day, it is discovered that this order ought not to have been granted or that the honourable court was misled into granting the same.”

The court postponed the case to May 14 to address the motion formally submitted for consideration.

Recently, the PDP National Caucus temporarily extended Ambassador Umar Damagum’s term as the party’s acting national chairman.

However, this extension remains contingent on the outcome of the imminent National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.

Ojukwu, who writes for the Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ), has been detained by the police for nine days for an alleged cybercrime offence.

However, a report by FIJ alleged that Ojukwu was held in police custody for an investigative report he did on the former deputy governor of Lagos, Orelope Adefulire, who was appointed by the ex-President Muhammadu Buhari administration as senior special assistant on sustainable development goals (SSAP-SDGs).

It was gathered that Adefulire was tasked with helping the country meet the United Nations’ 2030 deadline for achieving the SDGs. Before her appointment, she served as deputy to Governor Babatunde Fashola in Lagos from 2011 to 2015.

Orelope-Adefulire spoke highly of her intention to achieve SDGs 3 and 4, which concern good health and primary education.

On May 15, 2023, the office made a substantial payment of N147,127,467.58 to Enseno Global Ventures Ltd. for the construction of an acquisition centre (type A) and a block of six classrooms at Ajeromi Primary School, Lagos State.

This investment held the promise of significantly improving the educational landscape in the area.

This was expected to enhance education quality in the area and contribute to achieving SDG 4.

Five months later, FIJ investigated the project’s status. On October 6, 2023, they searched Ajeromi Ifelodun LGA for the specified school but found approximately 72 primary schools instead.

These schools suffered neglect, lack of staff, and poorly equipped classrooms.

A week later, a visit was made to the community to check for any new facilities. Government school staff, speaking anonymously, revealed that no improvements had been made in over a year.

Justice Oriji stated that if the defendants cannot fulfil the conditions of their release, they will be held in prison custody.
