Transfer: Maresca hints Ndidi could stay at Leicester City

Leicester City manager, Enzo Maresca, has spoken on Wilfred Ndidi’s future at the club.

The Foxes risk losing the energetic midfielder to other clubs this summer.

Ndidi’s contract with Leicester City will expire at the end of June and talks is yet to commence on a fresh deal.

Despite that Maresca is planning for the future with the Nigerian.

“I’m thinking already about the future,” Maresca told Leicester City Mercury.

“It’s good to start thinking about how we could improve next season. Hamza could be an option there; Wout (Faes) could be an option; and Wilf (Ndidi) could also be an option to do that kind of job.”

Ndidi registered six goals and six assists in 36 appearances across all competitions for Leicester City in the 2023/24 campaign.

Obi Cubana asks FG, state govts to make life easier for Nigerian youths.

Iyiegbu, who is also the Chairman of Cubana Group, advised the youth to be innovative and ready to work to be successful.

He also urged the governments to develop infrastructure and boost security to enhance entrepreneurship.

Iyiegbu made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on the sidelines of a conference organised by Gavice Logistics on igniting innovation.

The conference was held on Saturday in Victoria Island, Lagos.

The businessman, socialite and philanthropist also said that an enabling business environment would make life easier for Nigerians, especially the youth.

According to him, in the logistics business, for example, good roads are important.

“They need good roads to transport their goods from one point to the other,” he said.

He called on the governments to construct good roads and find a lasting solution to insecurity.

“The youths are not asking governments to buy vehicles for them but to create that enabling environment and remove all those blockages on the road.

People buy and sell, but the multiple taxes to worry about is demoralising.

“If these young people start to get involved in harmful things, who do we hold responsible?

“Also, people should be able to move from one point to the other without fear of being robbed or kidnapped,” he said.

Iyiegbu, who is also the Chairman of Cubana Group, advised the youth to be innovative and ready to work to be successful.

“There are different seasons in businesses. It is left to the operators of businesses to know how to approach each season.

There are times when things are difficult and times when the business is doing very well.

“Life is a hurdle, and with each challenge faced, you must know how to jump it and continue your journey to the next stage until you succeed.

“Nobody should stop a journey because times are hard.

“Therefore, business owners especially the young ones, must be innovative,” he said.

Young skitmakers must be united to avoid comedy industry crash – Seyi Law

Young skitmakers must be united to avoid comedy industry crash – Seyi Law.

Aletile said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Kaduna.

He also said that the comedy industry needed to ensure that newcomers are well grounded and not oversaturated to maintain the standard needed for them to still be respected. He equally said that the industry is still growing, adding that there were so many areas comedians could explore to change the face of the industry.

Seyi Law explained that skit makers who were springing up, were the new faces in the comedy industry noting that comedy is no longer limited to movies or stand-up shows alone.

According to him, every industry would want to enjoy the patronage and support of the government adding that such support would help build the comedy industry and increase the capacity of its impact on society.

“We have young boys who are doing well in the industry, I believe it is in safe hands. We must however try to be united to ensure the industry does not crash on us,” he said.

Seyi Law said while it is easy to jump into the entertainment industry without education, people must know that education would help them sustain themselves in it.

“Skit makers would not want to be put in a box because every aspect of life is there to explore.

“As much as a comedian enjoys people’s patronage, improving one’s self in terms of education is critical; one doesn’t need to be in the four walls of a class to be educated.

Research, reading, improving on vocabularies, improving knowledge on ones’ environment can go a long way in keeping one to stay afloat,” he added.

He, however, advised skit makers and other comedians to ensure that their comedy does not denigrate society in any form.

“We don’t want a situation where a skit maker will be tagged as one who dehumanise women and promoting social vices.

“We must try to make balance; sometimes we crack jokes about some individuals or institutions like the Police and sometimes we praise and commend them for their good work, that is the balance,” he stated.

EPL: Everton drop appeal against two-point deduction

Everton will no longer proceed with their appeal against a two-point reduction for breaching spending rules.

The Toffees had initially decided to fight the punishment handed down by an independent regulatory commission last month.

But a statement on their official X page read: “Everton Football Club has withdrawn its appeal of the decision by a Premier League independent commission to impose a two-point deduction on the club for a breach of the Premier League’s profitability and sustainability rules for the accounting period ending in June 2023.

“A hearing scheduled for later this month will now not proceed and the club will conclude the 2023-24 Premier League season with the two-point deduction remaining in place.”

Everton go into their final two fixtures in 15th place with 37 points, 11 clear of the bottom three and their Premier League survival is assured.

EPL: ‘No suitable replacement’ – Neville urges Man United to give Ten Hag another season

Former Manchester United captain, Gary Neville has urged the club’s leadership to grant manager Erik ten Hag another season to reverse the team’s fortunes.

Amid mounting speculation over Ten Hag’s future, Neville believes the Dutchman deserves a chance to address the challenges facing the club.

With Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s INEOS team set to make decisions post-season, Neville emphasised the need for continuity despite rumoured interest in other managers like Thomas Tuchel and Gareth Southgate.

“I don’t see any suitable replacement out there at the moment. Bayern Munich are struggling to find a replacement for their manager, other clubs are struggling as well,” Neville said via Sky Sports.

“I think we should stick with Erik ten Hag, and give him one more season, particularly an injury-free season where this season we’ve obviously had a lot of injuries. I would say one more season would be worthy to see if we can get back to the standards of last season where we won a trophy and finished in the top four and got Champions League football.”

‘I was amused’ – Ladipoe reacts to Wizkid shading Don Jazzy over his tweet

Nigerian rapper, Ladipoe has reacted to the controversy stirred by his recent tweet supposedly mocking Wizkid.

DAILY POST recalls that the Mavin Records signee seemingly ridiculed Wizkid for claiming that ‘hip hop is dead’.

Ladipoe, on his X handle, wrote, “Nigerian rappers that survived ‘hip hop is dead’ watching Afrobeat artistes go through their own.

After a fan alerted Wizkid to the post, he reacted by saying, “Lol, never chatting with anyone signed to an influencer. Next.”

He also retweeted two tweets suggesting that he referred to Mavin Records boss, Don Jazzy as an influencer.

Wizkid subtle shade at Don Jazzy sparked outrage on social media, with several celebrities including skit makers, Mr Macaroni and Nasboi and reality stars, Doyin and Tacha berating him for “disrespecting” the Mavin boss.

Reacting in a recent interview with Cool FM, Lagos, Ladipoe said he was “amused” by the chaos.

He explained that his tweet was grossly misunderstood.

He said, “The whole thing was a joke. Hip-hop artists have been through this time when there was a faux narrative that hip-hop I’d dead. And now, you are getting the same whispers about Afrobeats. Once again, I think that they are just as ridiculous and false as at the time they were saying hip-hop is dead.

“So my tweet was like, ‘Okay, you guys [Afrobeats singers], we [rappers] went through our own [hard times]. Don’t worry, this too shall pass.’

“I was more like a joke like we went through ours, now you are going through yours. That was the joke. If there’s anybody it was aimed at, it is more aimed at the audience or anybody who believes these narratives. Who are you to say any genre is dead?

“That was the whole intention behind the joke. Any other interpretation of it is something I didn’t anticipate. I know what I was thinking when I tweeted it. I tweeted it. Went to bed. Woke up to chaos.

“To be honest, the first thing I felt when I saw all the reactions, I was amused.”

Appearing on his wife’s podcast, ‘All Things Keyshia Ka’Oir,’ Mane explained that a lot of his signees are in jail because they have issues that people rarely see.

According to him, he can help them because he is also an ex-convict.

The host had said, “The street wants to know why all your 1017 artists keep going to jail.”

Responding, Mane said: “Well, that was how I was going back and forth in jail. I try to help those artists that I see a lot of myself in [them]. I feel like if I’m not helping them, who else is going to help them? Nobody sees that part of the story.

“They definitely have a story to tell. They come from the trenches. I want to help. I feel like I can relate to them. I know what they got going on.”

Three 1017 artists, Pooh Shiesty, Foogiano, and Young Thug, are currently serving different jail terms.

WhatsApp says it focused on deeper tones to reduce eye strain in low-light conditions, which is also why the app’s dark mode is now one shade darker to make it easier to read messages.

Counterpoint: US smartphone sales keep declining, Apple still comfortably on top

Counterpoint Research posted its analysis of the smartphone market in the United States for the first three months of 2024. According to the report, shipments declined 8% on a yearly basis, marking the sixth consecutive quarter of YoY decline.

Apple’s market share remained flat, with 52% of all sales going to Cupertino, while Samsung slightly increased its share from 27% to 31%.

Counterpoint: US smartphone sales keeps declining, Apple still comfortably on top

Americans do not want to upgrade their phones yet, revealed Jeff Fieldhack, Research Director for North America. Shipments are down, compared with Q1 2023 mostly because of high iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max shipments back then that the 15 series couldn’t replicate. Android shipments in the sub-$300 segments saw declines as well.

The low-end market continues to see consolidation and new product launches keep decreasing as makers are phasing out LTE phones for 5G models in carrier channels. The added costs of 5G connectivity makes it challenging for OEMs to compete, said Maurice Klaehne, Senior Analyst.

Counterpoint: US smartphone sales keeps declining, Apple still comfortably on top

Counterpoints predicts we’ll see signs of a recovery in Q3. That’s when new launches can stimulate demand, and there will also be seasonal growth driven by holidays and new phones with generative AI features, such as the iPhone 16 devices.
