Rivers’ Crisis: Impeachment plot against Fubara threat to Tinubu’s govt

The former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Timi Frank, has stated that the current crisis in Rivers State will snowball into destabilizing President Bola Tinubu’s administration if not forestalled in the nick of time.

He said Wike’s insistence on the impeachment of Siminalaya Fubara as governor of Rivers State by the defected members of the State House of Assembly would have a debilitating effect on Tinubu’s administration.

In a statement issued which he sent to DAILY POST in Abuja on Friday, Frank called on President Tinubu to call the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike to order and give peace a chance, alleging that Wike was working through the back door to install another Ikwere man.

Frank reminded President Tinubu how Fubara emerged as governor through people’s votes in the general election, warning that any attempt to selfishly remove him from office by anyone would plunge Rivers into crisis which will eventually have a negative effect on the revenue fortunes of the nation.

He alleged that the renewed orchestration by Wike to illegally remove Fubara is an attempt to undermine the Ijaw people in Rivers State.

Frank said: “Since 1999, this is the first time in Rivers State when you have a Governor from the Ijaw ethnic extraction.

“Every other person who has become governor since 1999 had successfully done two tenures in eight years.

So, Wike must allow Fubara to do his own term peacefully.

“Even though it is common knowledge that he was one of those that were instrumental and backed Fubara to become governor, that does not mean Fubara will now become his stooge and neglect to carry out his constitutional duties as the governor of Rivers State.”

Frank, who represents the United Liberation Movement for West Papua (ULMWP) in East Africa and the Middle East, added: “Fubara was not elected for the sole purpos

Suspend Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway Road – Chidoka tells Tinubu

A Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Osita Chidoka, has asked President Bola Tinubu to suspend the controversial Lagos-Calabar coastal road project and subject it to further public conversations.

Chidoka, who was a former Aviation minister, said the government should rather improve Nigeria’s inland waterways and build small seaports across the coastal areas to move goods from one coastal city to another by ship.

He stated this Thursday night when he was featured as a guest on Channels Television’s Politics Today and was asked what he would do about the project if he was the President considering the controversy it has generated, to which he replied that he would stop it.

“Stop it now and subject it to public conversation because the financiers cannot raise finance for this project except if they use budgetary funds to fund it. Nobody can raise finance if they know they had no competitive bidding,” Chidoka said.

According to him, the award of the contract for the coastal road did not follow due process and the whole process was shrouded in secrecy and therefore lacked transparency.

“If what the minister (Dave Umahi) said is correct, then there is an absolute breach because the first thing that would have happened is that ICRC would have received this, the second thing is that even with the designs done by them and the desire to be able to get funding, neither the IFC, World Bank, European Bank, African Development Bank would fund a project that doesn’t go through competitive bidding.

“Ask any of the financial institutions, where would they get the money from? It was never advertised,” he said.

Chidoka said the President has alternative projects to embark on as legacy projects. According to him, Tinubu can redesign the national highway, authorise a new National Highway Act to dualise the existing highways and connect them to the airports and seaports.

The Lagos-Calabar coastal road project has attracted a lot of criticism from Nigerians, with many questioning the need to embark on such a monumental project at a time when the nation is borrowing to execute existing projects.

Some of the strongest critics of the project are opposition figureheads, Peter Obi of the Labour Party, LP, and Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

The Federal Government recently started the construction of the 700km Lagos-Calabar coastal road which is being done by Hitech Construction Company Ltd.

Earlier on Thursday, the House of Representatives passed a resolution to investigate the procurement process in the award of the contract of the ₦15trn coastal road.

The House said the 2007 Procurement Act was violated and that certain approvals by the National Assembly as required by the law were not given.

If you’ve scrolled through TikTok and Instagram lately, you’ve likely seen the viral and complicated Asoka challenge flooding your timeline.

The asoka makeup trend [instagram/noararami]

In the Asoka trend, women make elaborate hand movements while dancing and applying makeup. It also involves captivating transitions.

The trend originates from the popular song “San Sanana” from the 2001 Bollywood film “Asoka.” The movie told the historical journey of Emperor Asoka of the Maurya Empire during the 3rd century BCE, portrayed by Shahrukh Khan. The song, originally sung and performed by the character Kaurwaki (played by Kareena Kapoor) inspired this trend.

It started with an Indonesian influencer who used the song to create a makeup transition video for a bride, transforming her into a stunning Bengali bride. From there, the trend quickly caught on in other countries as influencers worldwide put their spin on it.

This challenge is arguably one of the most challenging on TikTok. You need to watch a lot of videos and tutorials. It requires hours of practice to sync your hand movements with the music.

You can learn by watching tutorial videos. It’s also essential to have strong makeup skills or use the help of a makeup expert.

Additionally, knowing how to edit videos is key, or you may need to collaborate with a skilled video editor to bring your vision to life.

Cost of import clearance jumps by 23% [GFE Business]

Importers began witnessing an increased cost of clearing imports due to the implementation of the 2023 Customs Act. The Act granted the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) the power to set the rate used for calculating import duty according to the prevailing exchange.

The new policy further impacted on the cost of clearing imported goods as the exchange rates in the foreign exchange market fluctuated.

In a space of 16 days, the cost of clearing imports increased by 23% from ₦1,150.16/$ recorded on April 23, 2024, to ₦1,412.6/$ as of May 8, 2024.

When compared to the exchange rate figures as of January 2024 which stood at ₦951.941/$, this increase marked a 48% jump.

The CBN, in a bid to stem the outcry which followed the numerous fluctuations, had earlier this year, advised the Nigeria Customs Service to adopt the closing foreign exchange rate in the official window for import duty calculations.

This circular was effective from February 26, 2024, and supersedes the previous requirements outlined in an earlier directive of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

Before the directive, the CBN had on February 21, 2024, raised the Customs duty rate for clearing imported items by 4.5% from ₦1,537.073/$ to ₦1,605.82/$, and is recorded as the highest rate the nation’s port industry has witnessed since the FX reforms in June 2023.

The Naira’s comeback in April 2024 has been linked to the CBN’s reforms which strengthened the Naira against the dollar following the increased greenback supply. This provided immediate relief to importers facing high clearing costs at the ports.

Speaking on the issue, the former president of the Shippers Association of Lagos State, Jonathan Nicole in an interview with Business Day decried the constant fluctuations of the import duty rates adding that importers and manufacturers were facing serious challenges in their investments.

“Our economic policies have failed, and the resultant effect of these inconsistencies in rates is for importers to abandon their goods in the ports or relocate to countries where there is import policy stability,” Nicole added.

5 common mistakes you should avoid when starting a new job

Avoiding these common mistakes when starting a new job sets you on the right path to success.

Do not make these mistakes in your new job [Skills for Change]

Searching for a job can be tasking. Most people put in so much effort in getting one and the excitement that comes with that offer letter is worth the effort put in most of the time.

But then, the hard work should not stop with just getting a job as some people still make costly mistakes especially after they get a new job. If you do not want to be in this category, you should avoid some common mistakes when starting a new job.

Here are five common mistakes you should avoid when starting a new job:

If you are resuming a new job, no one expects you to know everything, not even your employer. This means not asking enough questions will be setting yourself up for failure.

You should not be embarrassed to ask questions. Asking enough questions lets your colleagues and even your boss know that you are confident enough to ask for help. Hence ask as many questions as is needed.

Another common mistake most people make when starting a new job is continuously talking about their old job and sometimes making comparisons. It does not matter if your new job is better or worse. It is better to not speak negatively or even excessively about your old job as this sends the wrong message to your employer and even your new colleagues.

Starting a new job can be overwhelming and intimidating. For most people, their first thought is usually to bury themselves in their assigned tasks and focus on that only. This is a common mistake to avoid when starting a new job.

If you are new, it is best to introduce yourself to your colleagues and try as much as possible to interact with them. These are people you’d likely be spending the next few months or years with and it is often better to establish a cordial relationship at the very start.

Another common mistake most people make when starting a new job is receiving too many phone calls. You might have been out of a job for a while and used to making long unending calls during the day. This should not continue when you are starting a new job.

<img class="image lazyloaded imgWithMetaData aligncenter" title="Avoid too many personal phone calls [Business Review Afrika]" src="data:;base64,” alt=”Avoid too many personal phone calls [Business Review Afrika]” width=”790″ height=”446″ data-original=”https://ocdn.eu/pulscms-transforms/1/ldkktkpTURBXy9iZTk5NzliMWY0NWMyYzI1MTE2MWFkZDdhMGI0OWU1OC5qcGeSlQMAAM0DVM0B4JUCzQMWzQG-wsM” />

When you start a new job, it is time to separate your personal life from your work and avoid taking too many personal phone calls during office hours.

Every workplace has its way of doing things. Sometimes it is how tasks are completed, team dinners, how meetings are conducted, unspoken rules, social events, etc. When starting a new job, try as much as possible to know the culture of your new workplace and try to adapt to it. Ignoring it will only make you feel left out and it is a common mistake most people make.

In conclusion, avoiding these common mistakes when starting a new job sets you on the right path to success.

Ooni of Ife addresses viral video of man claiming to be his son

The Ooni of Ife addresses a viral video of a man alleging to be his son, claiming to have been hidden under false names to keep his true identity concealed.

Dressed in a white Agbada, the man stated in Yoruba, “Oba Enitan Ogunwunsi is my father. He hid me with my mother with a clear instruction that I must not reveal myself.”

In response to the viral video, the palace spokesperson, Moses Olafare, released a statement on Thursday vehemently rejecting the man’s assertions as an act of impersonation.

The Ooni firmly refuted any connection with the individual making these claims and has distanced himself from the unfounded accusations.

Olafare also revealed that the matter had been reported to the relevant security agencies for further investigation.

Reiterating the monarch’s position, Olafare affirmed that as a responsible father and custodian of tradition, the Ooni of Ife is fully aware of and acknowledges all his children, and is committed to taking responsibility for them without hesitation.

Statement from Ooni of Ife rejecting alleged son

“Our attention has been drawn to an amateur video clip featuring a grown-up individual claiming to be a son of our father, Arole Oodua Olofin Adimula, Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja ll, the Ooni of Ife, virally trending across various online platforms.

“The self-acclaimed prince was unknown to the palace and the Ile-Ife populace

“He is not a child of Ooni Ogunwusi as fraudulently claimed and also never related in any way to any lineage of the Ogunwusi royal family and the Giesi royal compound of Ile-Ife at large.

“We categorically condemn and denounce this shameless act of impersonation in the strongest possible terms.

“It is imperative to clarify that the Ooni of Ife, as a responsible father and custodian of tradition, knows and acknowledges all his children and stops at nothing to take full responsibility for them (both those who are in Nigeria and outside the country).”

Remains of two Uganda Martyrs set to be returned from Rome

The Catholic Church in Uganda is preparing to welcome back a significant piece of its history: the remains of two martyrs who were brutally killed in the late 19th century.

The remains will be displayed at Uganda Martyrs University alongside other powerful artifacts

These martyrs, Charles Lwanga and Matiya Mulumba, were among a group of 45 young men, both Catholic and Anglican, who faced execution by King Mwanga of Buganda between 1885 and 1886. Their unwavering faith in the face of persecution ultimately led to their sainthood in 1964.

The remains of Lwanga and Mulumba were originally sent to Rome by the Missionaries of Africa, a Catholic society. This transfer occurred before the canonization ceremony, where the martyrs were officially recognized as saints.

The exact date for the return of Lwanga and Mulumba’s remains is still under discussion, but Father Richard Nyombi, a member of the Missionaries of Africa, anticipates their arrival in September 2024. This return coincides with the 60th anniversary of their canonization by Pope Paul VI.

Upon their return, the remains will be displayed at Uganda Martyrs University alongside other powerful artifacts. These artifacts include a chain believed to have been used during the executions and a cross crafted from mvule wood, a material likely present during the historical events.

<img class="image lazyloaded imgWithMetaData aligncenter" title="Uganda Martyrs exectutions depicted at the Namugongo Shrine" src="data:;base64,” alt=”Uganda Martyrs exectutions depicted at the Namugongo Shrine” width=”790″ height=”527″ data-original=”https://ocdn.eu/pulscms-transforms/1/a01ktkpTURBXy8zMDVkMzY1N2IwZjI4MThjYjdhNDcxNDM4OWU3YjAyNy5qcGeRlQLNAxbNAg_Cww” />

This news comes just weeks before Uganda observes its annual Martyrs’ Day on June 3rd. This national holiday draws millions of pilgrims from across Africa and the world to commemorate the sacrifices made by these young men.

Notably, some of those executed were pages serving King Mwanga himself, highlighting the brutality of the persecution.

Father Nyombi explains that due to the nature of the executions, some victims’ remains were not recovered, likely consumed by wild animals.

The return of Lwanga and Mulumba’s remains is seen as a timely event. Father Nyombi believes it offers a chance for the faithful to reflect on the martyrs’ unwavering faith and courage.

1 thing you probably should never drink when on a plane

The explanation of why you should avoid this drink water during a flight is both simple and surprising.

Be careful what you drink! [Deposit Photos]

Some flight attendants are happy to share their thoughts about airline passengers and what they should or shouldn’t do online.

Former airline employee, Kat Kalamani, took to TikTok to reveal what drinks she thinks you should avoid after boarding. Unexpectedly, plain water was at the top of her list.

The former stewardess’ recording aroused considerable interest and has already been viewed over five million times. This is not surprising, because Kalamani raises a controversial issue in it, warning against drinking water during a flight. She also has reservations about coffee and tea.

The explanation of why you should avoid drinking water during a flight is both simple and surprising. According to her, the water tanks are never cleaned, which she describes very directly as “absolutely disgusting.” That’s why she and other in-flight employees she knows rarely drink coffee or tea. Kalamani strongly rejects anything made from water stored in tanks.

<img class="image lazyloaded imgWithMetaData aligncenter" title="Don't trust anything that comes from the water tanks of airplanes [iStock]" src="data:;base64,” alt=”Don’t trust anything that comes from the water tanks of airplanes [iStock]” width=”612″ height=”408″ data-original=”https://ocdn.eu/pulscms-transforms/1/TdTktkpTURBXy80YzY2NTA3NGE0YTQyMTY4NzE0YTViZDNmZDljZGEyNi5qcGeSlQMAAM0CZM0BmJUCzQJkzQGYwsM” />

She has an additional reason to discourage passengers from drinking coffee. She explains that coffee machines are never thoroughly cleaned, this only happens when they need repair. According to the former stewardess, only partial washing is not enough to maintain hygiene, especially since these devices are usually located right next to the toilets.

However, Kalamani does not leave internet users without good advice. She recommends drinking only water and other drinks served in cans or factory-sealed bottles. According to her, it is better to last a few hours and forget about hot drinks.

She also has special advice for parents who ask for warm water during a flight to prepare milk for their baby. You should ask for bottled water and an extra cup of hot water to heat milk for your baby without the risk of poisoning.

Of course, water for preparing coffee or tea should be boiled, which should kill all the microorganisms contained in it. However, we are never sure whether it has actually undergone appropriate heat treatment.

<img class="image lazyloaded imgWithMetaData aligncenter" title="It is not known for which airlines the TikToker worked [iStock]" src="data:;base64,” alt=”It is not known for which airlines the TikToker worked [iStock]” width=”612″ height=”408″ data-original=”https://ocdn.eu/pulscms-transforms/1/_IsktkpTURBXy9iMjg1NmRlOGE3YTIyZmU3MGZmODQ5N2YxYjhmMGE2Ny5qcGeSlQMAAM0CZM0BmJUCzQJkzQGYwsM” />

Obviously, thousands of comments appeared under the video from people who reacted to the information provided by the former stewardess.

Some of them completely agree with her vision and confirm that they never drink water from airplane tanks. There are many other commenters who claim that they worked or work for airlines, and according to them this is the absolute truth.

“True! As a former steward, I can attest that this is 100 percent true,” one said.

“No wonder I got sick several times on the last flight from drinking tea. I vomitted,” another commented.

There were also completely opposing voices and people arguing that such a phenomenon does not occur with the carriers they are employed by. Water tanks and coffee machines are thoroughly and regularly cleaned.

“In my airline they are cleaned and we all love a good coffee or tea on board. Don’t believe everything you see on TikTok,” someone commented.

“She has no idea what she’s talking about. Water tanks are regularly sterilised. I know because I do it,” wrote another person in the comments section.

It is worth noting that it is not known for which airlines the TikToker worked.

All narcissists have these 6 habits in common — stay away from them.

The narcissist seems to be a very charming person, but his real face is not so pleasant at all.

The narcissistic personality is more than just simple selfishness and self-absorption.

It is a type of disorder that makes it difficult, and often even impossible, to function normally and build healthy relationships with other people.

The narcissist seems to be a very charming person, but his real face is not so pleasant at all.

Personal charm, communication skills, sense of humour, charisma and many talents – it sounds like an ideal or… a narcissistic personality.

Such people are very good at disguising themselves and are masters of creating appearances. They carefully hide their other, dark face. Of course, for a while. The truth usually comes to light when the victim has already become involved. Then the narcissist begins to destroy them.

The narcissistic personality is a complicated psychological portrait dominated by egoism and criticism. His charisma and charm are a magnet that attracts people. Gifted, successful, or at least appears to be so. He can manipulate and arouse interest. It is easy to fall into a narcissist’s trap, but getting out of this trap is very difficult and requires a lot of strength and self-denial.

People suffering from narcissistic personality disorder are characterised by a strong sense of superiority and specialness, as well as a strong need for recognition.

narcissist is a person who focuses mainly on himself, paying no attention to the feelings and needs of others.

Characteristic characteristics of narcissists include:

  1. Self-centeredness.
  2. Lack of empathy.
  3. The need for admiration.
  4. Belief in one’s own uniqueness.
  5. Feeling of having special rights.
  6. Lack of ability to self-criticise.

These are people who often manipulate others to achieve their goals, envy others, and at the same time often feel an inner emptiness.

There are two types of narcissism: grandiose and sensitive. A grandiose narcissist is a person who has a strong sense of self-confidence, considers himself unique, is arrogant and emotionally cold.

In turn, a sensitive narcissist is a person with low self-esteem, prone to anxiety and depressive symptoms. He is characterised by high sensitivity to criticism and a great tendency to compare himself to others.

Narcissistic personality disorder may co-occur with other personality disorders. It is a problem that affects not only the narcissist himself, but also his loved ones.

EPL: Take your chances – Arteta warns two Arsenal players

Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta, has told Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli to do their talking on the pitch.

The two Brazilian forwards have found playing time hard to come by, with Leandro Trossard, Kai Havertz and Bukayo Saka emerging as Arteta’s preferred frontline.

“Everyone who doesn’t play everything wants to play more. But that’s my decision and what I feel at each time.

“Both of them have been super important this season, and will also be these two remaining games and this is what this is about, when you have the moment you have to talk on the field and you have to say it on the field,” Arteta told ESPN Brasil.

Arsenal, who are one point clear at the top of the Premier League table, are away to Manchester United this Sunday.

EPL: Gary Neville predicts scoreline of Man Utd vs Arsenal clash

Former Manchester United captain, Gary Neville, has predicted that the Red Devils will all but end Arsenal’s Premier League title hopes this weekend.

The Gunners travel to Old Trafford Sunday and are currently sitting one point above Manchester City, having played a game more.

Neville believes Mikel Arteta’s men will wobble against United.

Although Erik ten Hag’s men were thrashed 4-0 in their last league fixture, Neville has backed his former team to produce a shock result against the leaders.

“People are almost dismissing Man United in this game because they’ve been that bad, which we all get, but it can be a graveyard, Old Trafford.

“Look, Arsenal should win but I’m not sure they will. Arsenal should win, but there’s a madness about Old Trafford and this game, usually in a title race, it doesn’t work out how you think.

“I’m going 2-2, this is just my feeling. Arsenal should win, but it’s a feeling I have,” Neville said on The Overlap.

Transfer: Wrexham keen to keep Arthur Okonkwo – Parkinson

Wrexham manager, Phil Parkinson, says they will do their best to keep Arthur Okonkwo at the club.

Okonkwo spent last season on loan at Wrexham from Arsenal.

The Nigerian-born goalkeeper was first choice as they secured promotion to League One.

The 22-year-old’s contract with Arsenal will expire at the end of June.

Okonkwo has generated interest from a number of clubs in the Premier League and Sky Bet Championship.
“Obviously we’re keen to keep Arthur and we’re working on that,” Parkinson told BBC Sport Wales.

“It could take time but there’s one thing for sure, we’ll give it everything that we’ve got to keep Arthur at the club.”

Okonkwo made 40 appearances for Wrexham in all competitions in the 2023/24 season.
