Brazil national team coach, Dorival Junior, has explained the reason behind his decision not to include Manchester United midfielder Casemiro in his 23-man squad for the upcoming Copa America.

Recall that Junior recently announced his squad for the Copa America and didn’t include the former Real Madrid star despite his pivotal role in Brazil’s 2019 Copa America victory.

Notably, Casemiro joins Arsenal’s Gabriel Jesus and Tottenham’s Richarlison in being left out of the squad.

Explaining his decision, Junior said while speaking to Globo Esporte (via Manchester Evening News):

“Regarding Casemiro, he deserves respect from all of us. I had a chat with him in Manchester three months ago and explained what I was thinking at the time, about his and his team’s situation, and what I needed. But just because he wasn’t called up this time, it doesn’t mean he’s been ruled out [for future call-ups] in any way.

“He knows exactly what I think of him and that is the main thing. Tomorrow I will have another chat with him and outline what I think may happen in the future, because he is a player that deserves consideration, affection and respect. We will continue believing in a player of his level.”

Champions League: Dortmund to lose money if they beat Real Madrid in final

Borussia Dortmund could lose money if they defeat Real Madrid in this year’s Champions League final.

This is because of the agreement between both clubs for the transfer of Jude Bellingham last summer.

Bellingham’s deal with Real contained a number of clauses related to the Champions League, as reported by Rhur Nachrichten.

If the England midfielder lifts the European Cup with Madrid, then Los Blancos will have to pay a further £4.3 million to Dortmund.

Another payment of £1.7m will have to be made if Bellingham is included in the Champions League Team of the Season.

The losing finalist earns £12.9m in prize money, which would total £19.3m for Dortmund when added with the bonuses for Bellingham.

If Dortmund wins in London next month they would make less than that sum, with the prize money standing at £17.2m for the winner.

It was reported that the Madaki of Piko, Chief John Jatau, verified that 10 locals were taken from his area, including four nomadic Fulani herdsmen.

Why Nigeria's Judiciary Needs Critical Reforms - Tinubu

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu

The Nigerian ReNewed Hope Solidarity Movement (NRHSM) has asserted that the country would have faced bankruptcy without President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s pragmatic policies and programmes.

In a statement made available to journalists in Abuja by its National Coordinator, Tom Obulu, the group praised the incumbent administration’s efforts in combating and eliminating corruption over the past year.

Obulu stressed the group’s desire to see Tinubub’s renewed hope agenda spread to all grassroots levels for the benefit of all citizens.

The group described the administration’s decisions as bold and courageous in directing the country’s affairs.

Obulu commended the Tinubu administration for revisiting policies to prevent Nigeria from going bankrupt. The movement highlighted the removal of fuel subsidies, forex market reforms, and the student loan scheme as initiatives that will support underprivileged students in accessing quality education.

Additionally, the group lauded the administration for launching the one million nano business owners program, the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project, and the completion of the Aba-Port Harcourt railway line.

The movement discouraged opposition groups from inciting protests and advised the government to take action against hoarding to prevent inflation.

Furthermore, the group supported the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Muhammed Matawale’s statement regarding the Northern Elders Forum’s lack of authority to represent the entire region, labelling them as a political burden to northerners.

“This statement is been amplified by the NHRSM because they (NEF) have no department that monitors the progress of achievements of this administration as enumerated above, they just want power for power sake, they should wait for 2031 as there is no vacancy.

“What the president needs now is the energy of the citizens of Nigeria to show support for his government and move the good governance that we need,” Obulu added.

He urged Organised Labour to be cautious in its demand for minimum wage, arguing that the N615,000 benchmark would cause instant hyperinflation and turn Nigeria into a banana republic.

Former Edo Speaker, Okiye Dumps PDP, Gives Reason For Decision

Meanwhile, a former speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Frank Okiye, has tendered his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with immediate effect.

One of the reasons he cited for his decision was the alienation of his constituents and supporters by Governor Godwin Obaseki from the activities and programs of the PDP.

In a statement released on Friday, Okiye expressed his dissatisfaction with the insensitive statement made by PDP’s governorship candidate in Edo, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, who stated that he would continue with Obaseki’s policies, unpopular principles, and elitist programs.

The politician mentioned that there were personal reasons for his departure from the PDP. Although he did not disclose his next political move, there are indications that he may join the All Progressives Congress (APC) to support Senator Monday Okpebholo, the party’s standard bearer.

Naija News reports that Okiye’s resignation, dated May 10, was addressed to the Ward Three Chairman of the PDP in Arue-Uromi, Esan Northeast Local Government Area.

Copies of the resignation were also sent to the Esan Northeast local government chairman of the PDP and the Edo chairman of the party, Dr. Tony Aziegbemi.

“On behalf of my family and supporters, I thank you and others for the opportunity given to me to serve, while in the party,” he noted.

Kaduna: Invite El-Rufai to account eight years financial dealings – Shehu Sani

Former Senator representing Kaduna North Central Senatorial District, Senator Shehu Sani, has said that recovering Kaduna’s looted $350 million World Bank loan cannot be accomplished solely by interrogating former Commissioners and Advisers.

He insisted that former Governor Nasir El-Rufai should also be summoned to address questions regarding the loan.

A few months ago, Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani (successor to Mallam Nasir El-Rufai), raised concerns about inheriting a substantial debt burden of $587 million, N85 billion, and 115 contractual liabilities from the previous administration. This has made it challenging for him to meet immediate financial obligations such as workers’ salaries.

Following this revelation, the Kaduna State House of Assembly has expressed its commitment to investigating the past administration of Governor El-Rufai.

However, former Senator Shehu Sani, in a post on his verified Facebook account on Friday, stressed that El-Rufai should not be exempt from accountability. He urged that El-Rufai be summoned to clarify the whereabouts of Kaduna’s share of Paris refund, Excess Crude funds, Stamp Duties Funds, Ecological Funds, and the billions in loans obtained from the Central Bank and Domestic Banks.

He stated, “All those contractors and useless consultants who absconded with money, and all those who benefited from the misappropriation of Kaduna State properties and are still enjoying themselves, should consider themselves fortunate that it’s not Comrade Shehu Sani who is currently governing the state.”

Super Eagles of Nigeria forward, Victor Osimhen is not likely to leave Napoli for Paris Saint Germain as the French giants have reportedly ended their pursuit of the striker.

After recording an outstanding 2022-2023 season at Napoli, Victor Osimhen became one of the most sought-after footballers in Europe.

Since last summer, there have been reports that Paris Saint Germain, Chelsea, Arsenal, and Manchester United are interested in the 25-year-old Nigeria international.

Recently, PSG reportedly made a €90 million plus an additional €40 million offer for Victor Osimhen but the Nigerian striker was said to be more determined to taste football in England rather than return to France where he played for Lille between 2019 and 2020.

Amid that, RMC Sport has reported that PSG coach, Luis Enrique, has identified Osimhen’s teammate at Napoli, Kvicha Kvaratskhelia, as a better replacement for Kylian Mbappe who has confirmed his decision to leave the French giants.

The 23-year-old Georgia international who joined PSG from Dinamo Batumi for a transfer fee worth €13.3 million in the summer of 2022, currently has a price tag worth €120 million.

Transfer: Chippa United Sets N2.3 Billion Price Tag On Stanley Nwabali

South African football club Chippa United has placed a significant R30 million (about ₦2.3 billion in Nigerian currency) price tag on Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali.

Naija News reports that Nwabali unexpectedly became a standout player for the Super Eagles during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament in Ivory Coast.

Nwabali, who made his tournament debut at the continental event, impressed everyone with his confident performance in goal, achieving four clean sheets in seven matches.

The 27-year-old player’s exceptional performance played a vital role in Nigeria’s journey to the final, where they narrowly lost to the host nation. Nwabali’s outstanding display caught the attention of various clubs worldwide.

Clubs such as Queens Park Rangers in England’s Championship, Royale Union Saint-Gilloise in Belgium, Kaizer Chiefs in South Africa, and Al-Ettifaq in Saudi Arabia have all shown interest in acquiring the services of the Nigerian national team player.

According to Goal.com, the South African DStv Premiership are demanding the sum of 30 million rands for Nwabali, a price tag that has reportedly put off Kaizer Chiefs.

Nwabali’s potential move abroad seems likely, given that other clubs consider the asking price reasonable. His contract with Chippa United expires in the summer of 2026.

The real question now is whether the interested clubs are prepared to meet the substantial price set by the South African club. After his standout performance at the AFCON, the demand for the former Katsina United goalkeeper has significantly increased, making him a valuable player in the upcoming transfer window.

Iheanacho, Lookman Among Leicester Players With COVID-19 Disease - Report

Aston Villa are in discussions to sign Nigerian striker Kelechi Iheanacho from Leicester City this summer, as reported by Football Insider.

Naija News reports that Villa’s transfer chief, Ramon Monchi, is said to have met with Iheanacho’s representatives in Greece ahead of Villa’s UEFA Europa Conference League game against Olympiacos on Thursday.

Iheanacho’s contract with Leicester City expires at the end of June, and he has declined a new offer from the club, making him a free agent soon.

His decision to leave Leicester has prompted Aston Villa to consider him a potential boost to their attacking lineup, despite already having forwards Ollie Watkins and Jhon Duran.

The 26-year-old forward has had a notable impact at Leicester City since his move from Manchester City in 2017.

Last season, Iheanacho scored five goals in 23 league appearances, demonstrating his capabilities and potential value to Villa’s squad.

Ihenacho was also believed to be pivotal in Leicester City’s effort to return to competing in the top-tier English league.

Aston Villa’s interest in Iheanacho comes as the club looks to bolster its offensive options for the upcoming season, aiming to improve their standing in the Premier League and in European competitions.

Football experts suggest that the move for Iheanacho is part of Villa’s broader strategy to enhance their squad depth and attacking prowess.
