Nigeria Premier Football League side, Rivers United, are confident they will bounce back from the narrow defeat against Sunshine Stars.

The Pride of Rivers suffered a 1-0 loss to the Owena Waves in Akure on Sunday.

Rivers United are now winless in their last four league games.

Their hopes for a continental ticket are gradually fading away following the recent poor run of form.

Rivers United occupy 11th position on the NPFL table with 41 points.

Evan Ogenyi’s side are 12 points away from a continental position.

“We will bounce back together stronger,” the club stated on their X handle.

Rivers United will lock horns with Abia Warriors in their next game in Umuahia on Wednesday.

EPL: Gary Neville picks one match that will decide title winners

Former Manchester United captain, Gary Neville, has said Tuesday night’s Premier League game between Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City will decide this season’s title winners.

The title race will go down to the last day, thanks to Arsenal’s 1-0 victory at United on Sunday.

The Gunners hold a one-point lead over City, who have two matches left to play.

Pep Guardiola’s men play Arsenal’s north London rivals Spurs on Tuesday night and if they win the game, they will hold a two-point lead over Arsenal with one round of Premier League fixtures left.

Neville believes both City and Arsenal – who face West Ham and Everton at home respectively on the final day – will both win those final matches.

He said on his podcast: “Tuesday is the decider. A month ago, I said I look forward to the Tottenham vs Man City game.

“There are some moments along the way but it will come down to that game on Tuesday night. They [City and Arsenal] will not make mistakes on Sunday.

“Tuesday night is where it will be decided – and there will be that expectant audience where you think: can Tottenham play? Can they cause them problems? They can, but can they take their few chances they will get in the game?”

EPL: It’s difficult to win four titles, Mourinho, Wenger didn’t do it – Guardiola

Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola, has insisted it is difficult to win four consecutive Premier League titles.

Guardiola listed Sir Alex Ferguson (Manchester United), Arsene Wenger (Arsenal) and Jose Mourinho (Chelsea) as some of the coaches who couldn’t achieve the feat.

City on the verge of breaking the jinx with two league fixtures left to play.

If the champions beat Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday and West Ham on Saturday, they will retain the trophy.

It will be the first time a team will achieve it in English football history.

“In the beginning of the season, we didn’t think about the four Premier Leagues.

“If we are in February, March, April and we are still there, we can still do it, after that ignites something In all our heads that says guys no team has done it. That shows you how hard it is.

“Liverpool in the 1980s, Sir Alex Ferguson’s United in the 1990s, Chelsea with [Roman] Abramovich and Jose [Mourinho] and Arsenal with [Arsene] Wenger didn’t do it, so if it’s not been done it’s difficult. It’s as simple as that,” Guardiola told a news conference on Monday.

‘It’s done’ – Ex-Liverpool midfielder reveals Man Utd player told him manager to replace Ten Hag

Former Liverpool midfielder, Jason McAteer, has claimed that one Manchester United player told him that he is expecting England current head coach Gareth Southgate to replace Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford in the near future.

McAteer, who refused to mention the name of the Man United player, believes Ten Hag’s time at the Premier League club is over.

Ten Hag’s future at Man United looks far from certain, as the club slipped to a 1-0 defeat at home to Arsenal on Sunday.

Man United are now in danger of missing out on European football next season.

Different managers have already been linked with a move to Man United this summer, including Thomas Tuchel, Jose Mourinho, Harry Potter, Zinedine Zidane and Southgate.

However, McAteer claims he spoke with one member of Man United’s squad last week who feels the club’s new ownership will make a move for Southgate once England’s Euro 2024 campaign is over

“I won’t name names because I don’t want to say who he is but he plays for Man United and I had a conversation with him on Friday, I bumped into him because I live just outside the area,” McAteer said on beIN Sports.

“We got into conversation, great lad, and I asked him about the end of the season and what he thought and he gave me no inclination that the manager was there to stay.

“In fact, we spoke about different names and who we thought will be a good fit and I got no inclination from him.”

“Yeah, that [Gareth Southgate] was the name,” McAteer added when asked the name of the manager that the Man United player told him would replace Ten Hag.

“Footballers have an inclination when the manager’s job is on the line and it goes around the camp, obviously they know don’t they, and I just got the feeling that it’s done, it’s done.”

No disagreement with Super Eagles top stars – Finidi

Super Eagles head coach, Finidi George, has debunked rumours of a strained relationship between him and some Super Eagles stars.

Finidi reportedly fell out with Ademola Lookman and Sadiq Umar during the Super Eagles friendlies against Ghana and Mali in March.

Lookman featured as a substitute in both games, while Umar didn’t step on the pitch at all.

The 53-year-old claimed he has a cordial relationship with all his players.

“I have been with the team for 20 months; I have always had a cordial relationship with all the players as an assistant coach,” Finidi said at his unveiling ceremony.

“I am still the same person even as head coach now, only that the title has changed.

“There will be no controversy regarding relationships with the players.

“These are professional players and we have to give them what they’re used to in Europe; you don’t need to slap anybody for not doing your job.”

Akpabio, Gov Eno realigns for 2027 re-election bid

0
4 mn read

The President of the 10th National Assembly, Senator Godswill Akpabio and the governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno are gearing towards their reelection bid ahead of the 2027 general elections.

This played out days ago when the people of Ikot Ekpene Senatorial district declared Akpabio as the sole candidate for the 2027 senatorial race.

DAILY POST reports that the event was a grand reception for the Senate President in Ikot Ekpene local government area of the state.

According to Akpabio at the event, “When you said in 2027 no one should contest, it means it’s only one candidate from the senatorial district and no other person.”

In the same vein, at the event, the people also hailed the governor, Pastor Umo Eno for his ability to bring unity and peace between his administration and the successive ones.

It is known that the frosty relationship between former governor Udom Emmanuel and senator Godswill Akpabio never deterred Eno from seeking affinity with the senate president to clear every political obstacle on his way.

The governor urged the people of Akwa Ibom Northwest to also adopt him as the sole candidate for governorship election in 2027 having adopted Akpabio whom he described as his “political grandfather” as a sole candidate for the senate.

The exercise, however, was more like a barter system of politics where Akpabio of the All Progressives Congress, APC, will not have any opponent to contend with in 2027, while Gov Umo Eno, the leader of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the state will not have a contender from the main opposition party (APC) come 2027.

Eno said, “this honour shows that Ikot Ekpene Senatorial district will support Umo Eno for another eight years, after that I will hand over to them.

“I am the grandson of Senator Akpabio and I know I will enjoy uncommon benefits from the uncommon grandfather.”

Akpabio in a reaction promised to work with Gov Eno to realise his aspirations, even as he stressed that he would not force him to cross carpet to APC.

He said, “I’m not telling you to join our party but continue to work with God and we will support you to succeed. You want to see federal projects in the state, you’ll see more than federal projects.

“The National Assembly will work with you for you to succeed as governor, irrespective of political party lines. You have received the Federal Government with smiles, we will receive you in Abuja with benefits of democracy for your people.”

If Akpabio’s pledge and promises are something to go by, that means the rumour that the governorship candidate of the Young Progressives Party, YPP, in the 2023 elections in Akwa Ibom, Senator Bassey Akpan would defect to the APC to be the governorship candidate in the 2027 elections may be hoax.

Feelers have it that the senate president having displayed such a public romance with the governor may want to live to his words by impressing it on his party (APC) to support governor Eno’s second term bid as long as PDP will live to its side of bargain by not fielding any senatorial candidate in Akwa Ibom Northwest.

The feeling is that Senator Akpan, popularly known as OBA may not dig it out with Gov Eno during the 2027 polls as expected but would be compensated with a ministerial slot.

Meanwhile, it is not yet uhuru for Akpabio to assume the sole candidacy of Akwa Ibom Northwest for the 2027 Senatorial elections as the ruling PDP has come out to say it would field a candidate for the senatorial race.

The PDP said it was working hard to bring out a competent candidate for the district who would give the present representative a bleeding nose at the polls.

Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Akwa Ibom State chapter, Mr Borono Bassey, speaking with our correspondent in Uyo, said people should not mistake the event at the Ikot Ekpene stadium to mean the position of the PDP.

Bassey, while stressing that the event was purely an APC event and the people were at liberty to make proclamations, stated that the PDP would field a candidate for the 2027 senatorial seat.

He said Pastor Umo Eno attending the APC event showed his bipartisan approach to governance and had nothing to do with the position of the PDP in the 2027 elections.

According to him, “we are going to field a candidate for that election and our candidate is going to win the election.

“The truth is that the event was majorly an APC event so they were within their rights to make proclamations or wishes.

“We, as a party, are working hard, re-strategizing and having statewide ward meetings at all times to win the elections.

“We should know that the governor is the governor of Akwa Ibom State and what he is doing now is governance and not politicking.

“He is adopting a bipartisan disposition, what he is saying is that as long as you are Akwa Ibom person, or doing genuine business in Akwa Ibom State, he is your governor, you should be celebrated and protected.

“He is ensuring that he safeguards lives and property, so what we should do is to distinguish governance from politics and when the time for politics comes, of course, we will bring our candidate.

“The governor said he will be the governor of Akwa Ibom State and not the governor for PDP.”

Abia Govt denies conducting fresh verification of workers, chides NLC, NUP

Following the alarm raised by the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Abia State led by Okoro Ogbonnaya, the state government has said it is not embarking on another verification exercise for public and civil servants in the state.

The Abia government, while declaring that “there is no smoke without fire”, explained that workers in the ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) as well as the 17 LGAs were only asked to upload their credentials online to make documentation of their employment easy for them.

The Commissioner for Information and Culture, Okey Kanu disclosed this while briefing the press after this week’s executive council meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti.

He was reacting to the communique by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) which said that workers should not be part of any verification exercise.

“Government is not embarking on any verification; rather what is going on is that workers were asked to upload their credentials online.

“And like they say, there is always no smoke without fire; the government had planned to make certain appointments from within the civil service and when the files of some senior civil servants were brought forward, it was found out that there were no papers (necessary documents) in those files,” he said.

The Commissioner said that the NLC and any other group telling the workers to shun the exercise without finding out from the Abia State government was being unfair, creating false alarm and misleading the workers.

Kanu equally chided some members of Abia State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) who issued a public statement to the effect that their executives did not represent them well during the discussions that led to the payment of their outstanding pensions in the state.

He noted that it was funny for the NUP members to complain after the pensioners had received bank credit alerts of their pensions.

According to Kanu, “Their outstanding pensions were paid, there were no complaints and suddenly they woke up to say that they don’t accept the outcome of the agreement.

“And there is a part of that agreement that says that in the event of any disagreement, that both parties should come together and mutually resolve it but the NUP did not do that.”

LP guber candidate, Akpata, Edo Deputy gov, Omobayo trade words over secretariat invasion

Olumide Akpata, the Labour Party candidate for the September 21, 2024, governorship election in Edo State and Marvellous Godwins Omobayo, the state deputy governor, have differed over the alleged invasion of the party’s secretariat and sacking of its state executive.

DAILY POST reports that some members of the Labour Party, mostly youths, led by the now suspended youth leader of the party, Ken Omusi had last Thursday invaded the party’s secretariat in Benin City, announced the sack of its executive and declared himself the acting chairman of the party.

Speaking on the development after the party’s stakeholders’ meeting, Akpata alleged that the youths were sponsored by the deputy governor of the State, Marvelous Omobayo.

According to him, “you are all aware that the present deputy governor to Governor Godwin Obaseki was taken from our folds and appointed by the current governor.

“And, it appears that the current deputy governor in the state is employed for the purpose. He must have assured his paymaster that the Labour Party is decimated, and it does not exist and that once he leaves us, the party would no longer exist. You know people tend to be legends in their own mind.

“The individual who invaded and attacked our secretariat, the suspended youth leader, Ken Omusi we know is with the deputy governor.

“We have photographic evidence to the effect that they are working together currently, and we know that the incident of the last couple of days is just another part of their scripts to create the impression that there is chaos in the Edo Labour party.

“There is no chaos in the party. We are organized and ready to claim Dennis Osadebay avenue for Edo State.

“As the Labour Party chairman rightly noted, this minion who used to be the youth leader of our party in the state working with the state deputy governor arrived at this secretariat with officers of the Edo State Security Network and with Police officers attached to Edo State Government House.

“So, we are sending a note of warning to those who are orchestrating this confusion, that confusion does not exist here in our party. We are clear in our mind where we are going to Dennis Osadebay avenue.

“We are encouraging our former comrade to ‘dey their lane so that we will also dey our lane’. You don go, dey there.

“Don’t use us to shine. You cannot use us to shine. You don’t have that power. The height that he reached in the Labour Party was as a result of the support of the people.

“And, now that he has decided to cross over to the other party, all well and good but do not attempt to think for one second that any one of us will follow you. We are going nowhere

“We assure him, and we wish him well in his five-month tenure as deputy governor of the state. We don’t wish anybody bad, ‘but if na there he can reach, it is well and good for him.’

“But you cannot destroy Labour Party for your personal success. You cannot destroy Labour Party for your personal ambition. And, before we fall you ‘don fall’.

“‘So dey your lane, we will dey our lane’. I am speaking directly to Engr Marvellous Godwin’s Omobayo. ‘Dey your lane and we dey our lane’”, he said.

Reacting, Omobayo, the Edo State deputy governor, described the allegations against him as unfounded and baseless.

The deputy governor, who spoke through his Chief Press Secretary, Victor Adefemi noted that the allegations by the Labour Party governorship candidate were spurious, unfounded and baseless.

Omobayo posited that he was one of the major Labour Party stalwarts who deployed his personal resources and links to make the Labour Party strong and attractive to Akpata in Edo State.

“I contested as Deputy Governor with Honourable Isaiah Osifo on the platform of Labour Party in 2020 and thereafter, remained committed to the principles of the party leading to my contest for Akoko Edo Federal Constituency in 2023 general election, before the entrance of Barrister Akpata into the party.

“I hereby urge Barrister Olumide Akpata to excuse me from the Labour Party’s crisis.

“Omobayo has no place for violence and hatred in his style of politics, the Labour Party’s candidate should go and verify this.”

You’ve no respect for Tinubu, stop witch-hunting Wike – Ex-Senator tackles Fubara

A former federal lawmaker who represented the Rivers Southeast Senatorial district in the National Assembly, Senator Olaka Nwogu has attacked the Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara over the move by his administration to probe the past governments.

DAILY POST recalls that Fubara, on Monday, announced that his administration will probe the past governments, particularly the immediate past administration led by Nyesom Wike, the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.

The governor stated this amidst the ongoing political crisis rocking the state following the feud between him and the Minister.

Reacting, Nwogu who spoke in Port Harcourt on Monday, urged the governor to stop witch-hunting the minister.

The former lawmaker lamented that despite President Bola Tinubu’s intervention in the face-off between Fubara and Wike, the incumbent governor has decided to escalate the crisis by planning to probe the latter.

According to Nwogu, Fubara’s move to prob Wike’s administration signals his disrespect for the president, stressing that the present disposition of the governor has negated all the peace overtures and spited the president.

“This is a direct spite of the President. If he chooses to abandon the eight-point agenda and to pursue this course, it means he has no respect for the President’s intervention.

“This is an unnecessary escalation. It tenses the place up. As a governor, do your job. You will be judged by the infrastructures you provide, but if you think that fighting people will add to your scorecard, let us see how.

“If you want to probe the past administration, on which records? The person setting up the panel is also the record keeper.

“What will be put before they are selective, are they doctored? This is just the most absurd of all the absurdities”, he said.

Popular singer and activist, Charles Chukwuemeka Oputa, better known as Charly Boy, has described Nyesom Wike, Minister of the FCT, as the ‘mistake maker’ of the century.

The statement came after Wike told the people of Rivers State that he made a mistake and he is ready to correct the mistake at the appropriate time.

Wike and the Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, have been embroiled in a face-off that has polarised the state House of Assembly into two camps.

“I want to say this clearly, in life we have made a mistake. I have made a mistake. I own it up and I say God forgive me. I have said all of you forgive me. But we will correct it at the appropriate time,” Wike declared.

Responding to the statement, Charly Boy, in a post on his X handle on Tuesday, said Wike will very soon claim he made another mistake for supporting President Bola Tinubu in 2023.

He wrote: “I made a mistake in 2016 by supporting Senator Ali Modu Sheriff as PDP National Chairman. I made another mistake in 2017 by supporting Prince Uche Secondus as PDP National Chairman. I made another mistake for supporting Tambuwal for PDP ticket in 2019. I made yet another mistake in 2021 by supporting Senator Iyorchia Ayu as PDP National Chairman. And, most recently, I made a mistake in 2023 by supporting Sir Sim Fubara as my successor. I know very soon he will make another mistake for supporting Tinubu in 2023. Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the mistake maker of the century.”

The Labour Party, LP, has said the meeting between its 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi and his counterpart from Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar, ex-Senate President Bukola Saraki and Sule Lamido, was to rescue Nigerians from their current suffering.

LP’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, said there would be more of such meetings aimed at brainstorming over the sufferings of Nigerians.

On Monday, Obi met with Atiku and the PDP chieftains in Abuja.

However, Ifoh said the party was in support of the meeting, adding that the meeting was that of like-minded individuals.

The LP spokesman also disclosed that additional meetings had been scheduled to occur ahead of the 2027 general election.

A statement by Ifoh said: “Yes, it was a meeting of like-minded individuals who believe there is a need for better leadership in our nation. They are people who see that Nigerians are suffering, not receiving what they bargained for, and observe corruption persisting in high places while Nigeria’s resources are mismanaged.

“They believe it’s the right time to unite and take action to address the challenges facing Nigeria today. Despite the government being barely a year old, Nigeria is facing difficult times under the APC administration, which seems directionless.

“This meeting is just the beginning; there will be further interactions and gatherings with other individuals. Together, they will brainstorm on how to rescue the nation. The party is fully aware of the meeting and is committed to working hard to achieve something significant for our country.”

DAILY POST recall that the Benue APC is in a lingering crisis that has led to formation of parralel Exco of the party in the state.

One of the factions loyal to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Senator George Akume, is led by Comrade Austin Agada.

While the one loyal to the Benue State Governor, Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia, is led by Mr Benjamin Omakolo.

As a result of the festering cisis in the Benue state APC, the state secretariat of the parry in Makurdi has been sealed by security agencies.

Taraba: Ancestral claims dispute escalates Tiv-Jukun conflict

Tension has risen to boiling point in Taraba State as a dispute over ancestral claims has reignited longstanding conflict between the Tiv and Jukun communities.

The spark came from alleged contentious statement attributed to the Jukun Youths and Cultural Development Association, JYCDA, targeting the Taraba State Tiv Cultural and Social Association, TCSA.

The JYCDA’s statement, which circulated widely on social media and also published in a national daily, as noticed by DAILY POST, allegedly challenged the ancestral heritage of the Tiv people in the state.

In response, the Taraba Tiv Youth Development Forum, TTYDF, on Sunday, issued a rebuttal, accusing the JYCDA of spreading misinformation and inciting animosity towards the Tiv community.

The TTYDF particularly condemned the labeling of Tiv individuals, including Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, as bandits and the reported obstruction of their return to their ancestral lands in Wukari council.

Led by its President, Torkuma Luper Moses, the TTYDF reaffirmed the historical presence of the Tiv people in the state and cited instances where Tiv leaders had supported the Jukun community during conflicts.

They vehemently rejected claims portraying the Tiv as mere settlers or immigrants in the region.

TTYDF also criticized the Jukun youths for allegedly attempting to besmirch the reputation of Senator George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, by alleging bias in favour of the Tiv community.

They called for unity and urged the state government to expedite efforts to facilitate the return, resettlement, and rehabilitation of displaced Tiv individuals.

Amidst the escalating tensions, the TTYDF emphasized the need for dialogue and mutual understanding to address the underlying grievances between the two communities.

They also underscored the importance of embracing diversity and fostering peace in the state.

Ohanaeze: Unfounded allegations won’t deter our pursuit of Igbo interest – Isiguzoro

The factional Secretary-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro has declared that no amount of propaganda and frivolous allegations would make him jettison the pursuit of Igbo interest.

He spoke in reaction to allegations against him and some other chieftains of Ohanaeze Ndigbo by Ohanaeze President, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu.

Isiguzoro, who said there are clandestine meetings ahead of the 2027 election, which is aimed at satisfying the personal interest of an unnamed South-East governor in the All Progressives Congress, APC, said they would continue to frustrate such moves.

He said Professor Obasi Igwe, Dr. Harford Ugwu, and Professor Nwankwo Nwaezeigwe should be commended for standing tall in defence of Igbo interest and vilification.

“These noble individuals have exhibited unwavering courage in unveiling the hidden agendas and clandestine political machinations of the so-called ‘Ohanaeze Reconciliation Committee.’

“This committee, established in December 2023 with an office in Abuja, has been unmasked for its ulterior motive: to advance the 2027 Vice Presidential ambition of a Southeast Governor.

“The clandestine activities of this committee aim to pair a Southeast Governor as the running mate to a Northern presidential candidate in the 2027 elections.

“This strategic move seeks to exploit Northern discontent with the Federal Government to oppose President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election.

“Despite facing setbacks exposed by leaked audio recordings, the civil intrigues to unseat President Tinubu persist, with financial backing provided by the Southeast Governor.

“This subversive effort involves leveraging a faction of misguided Igbo Elders to engage with Northern counterparts, Fulani leaders, and Northern Monarchs.”

He said the proponents had “resorted to deceptive tactics, baseless accusations, and alarmist strategies to obfuscate the truth.”

He said the allegations directed against him were “groundless, malicious, and untruthful.

“No monetary demands for any medical trip were made to Chief Iwuanyanwu by Isiguzoro. We challenge Chief Iwuanyanwu to substantiate any claims he makes.

“Isiguzoro, along with Professor Obasi, Professor. Nwankwo Nwezeigwe, and other dedicated individuals, will not be deterred by ongoing threats, intimidation, or false media propaganda.

“Recent events highlight the urgency of safeguarding OHANAEZE NDIGBO from being co-opted for the 2027 Vice Presidential aspirations of the Southeast Governor.

“Attempts to extend the President General’s tenure from Imo State and deprive Rivers State of the rightful opportunity to lead OHANAEZE Ndigbo must be scrutinized and resisted by Ndigbo.”

He called on all Ndigbo and well-meaning Nigerians “to stand together to safeguard our collective future from divisive forces seeking to manipulate our destiny.

“It is only through collaboration, honesty, and a firm dedication to the truth that we can navigate the challenges that lie ahead.”

Solve hunger, economic problems or face protest bigger than EndSARS – Primate Ayodele warns Tinubu

The Leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele on Tuesday asked President Bola Tinubu to solve hunger and electricity problems in the country in order to avoid an impending massive protest that will affect every sector.

Primate Ayodele revealed that if there is no solution to economic hardship, the protest will come up between August and September 2024.

In a statement signed by his Media Aide, Oluwatosin Osho, Ayodele made it known that it will be bigger than the popular EndSARS protest because every Nigerian will participate in order to express their displeasure with the current administration.

He said, ‘’President Tinubu, don’t allow another massive protest to come up, let there be food on the table of Nigerians. Do something about this inflation so that we can avoid inflation. I see another massive protest that will affect every quarter. If there is no improvement by August-September, it will be terrible.’’

Continuing, the prophet advised the president to declare a state of emergency on economy and electricity because both sectors are not improving. He advised the president to improve on agriculture while urging him to avoid propaganda and face reality.

‘’President Tinubu should address the economic hardship now, he should also improve on electricity because if there is no adequate power supply, it will affect the economy badly. They should declare a state of emergency on electricity because nothing is improving. This aspect will affect the Nigerian economy.

“The government should also improve on agriculture in order to prevent hardship that is uncalled for. There is a lot to do in order to bring the price of food commodities down, if you don’t do it now, there will be a massive protest. All this propaganda will not help, let them face reality,’’ he added.

The defendants, Alhaji Isiaka Fatai and Samuel Oyero, were standing over matters pertaining to suit No HCP/IC/2023 to wit: The State vs Awode Oladosu & 13 others, which was presided over by Justice A.A. Shobayo.

The case bordered on an allegation of arson reported by one Akeem Adigun (aka Socopao) in which Alhaji Isiaka Fatai, Oyero and 12 others.

It could be recalled that Agosasa was recently enmeshed in crisis, with property worth billions of naira destroyed with one life lost over an Obaship tussle in the town.

In a statement from the counsel to Alhaji Isiaka, Kehinde Bamiwola Esq, he alleged that the men of the DSS operatives used weapons on the two, stressing that “Alhaji Isiaka Fatai was beaten, slapped, man-handled, rough-handled and molested.

The Principal Registrar of the High Court and Sectional Head of High Court, Ilaro, Comrade Omololu Olusanya, who confirmed the incident, described it as shocking and disrespectful to the rule of law.

He noted that even after the judge had ordered the operatives not to make any arrest within the court premises, they still proceeded to arrest the two persons.

“They still went ahead and did the act to the extent that they assaulted one of our staff members, Mrs. Fadina, while doing that act. It’s a very sad issue that caused a lot of noise within the court premises.

“It was from the source that we heard they were DSS agents. If anybody sees them, one would think they were armed robbers.

“They did not wear anything that identified them as DSS, but they came to my lord this morning and said they had some people to arrest. That was when we knew they were DSS officers.

“ They approached the judge before the court session began. The honorable judge advised them that if they wanted to make an arrest, it must not be done within the court premises.

“They could stay outside and do whatever they wanted, but they refused that advice and carried out the arrest within the premises,” he said.
